Guest guest
metronidazole (Flagyl, Metryl, Protostat, Satric, Neo-Tric) Drug description Metronidazole is an antibacterial and antiprotozoal drug. It is commonly used to treat a condition called amebiasis. Amebiasis can cause diarrhea in people with HIV/AIDS. If the amebiasis is severe or does not respond to treatment with metronidazole alone, iodoquinol or diloxanide furoate may be added. Another intestinal condition called giardiasis is also treated with metronidazole. Other conditions that this drug may be prescribed to treat are trichomoniasis, anaerobic bacterial infections, bacterial vaginosis, Helicobacter pylori and antibiotic-associated diarrhea and colitis. Both pill and ointment preparations of metronidazole have been used with some success in treating the skin inflammations and eruptions caused by rosacea. Side effects The most frequent side effect is nausea. This is sometimes accompanied by headache, anorexia, dry mouth, and a sharp, unpleasant metallic taste. Rarer side effects can include vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain and constipation. The drug can affect the nervous system and cause headache, dizziness and peripheral neuropathy. Less frequently it may cause depression, irritability, restlessness, insomnia and convulsions. Urinating may become painful and urine may become dark or reddish-brown due to the way the body absorbs the drug. Rare effects on the blood are leukopenia and thrombocytopenia. In cases of hypersensitivity, allergic-type skin reactions and nasal congestion may occur. Dosage For acute intestinal amebiasis the standard dose is 750 mg three times a day. In children this is reduced to 35-50 mg per kg of body weight in three divided doses daily. For giardiasis the usual dosage is 250 mg three times daily. How long it may take to work Your doctor will monitor your stools for the presence of the parasites that cause amebiasis and giardiasis. Treatment is usually for 5-10 days in cases of amebiasis, 5-7 days for giardiasis. Managing side effects Take with meals to avoid stomach upset. Avoid alcohol as vomiting will result due to the drug. Other medications can be affected by metronidazole. Levels of anticoagulants, lithium and phenytoin may be dangerously increased. Disulfiram and metronidazole should not be used together due to the possibility of acute psychoses and confusion - manufacturers recommend a two week break between these treatments. Barbituates may increase levels of metronidazole in the body, increasing the risk of side effects. Cimetidine (Tagamet) may decrease the amount of metronidazole in the body and lessen its effects. Guest guest
I have been on Flagyl. It *is* an antibiotic (you should have heard the doctor trying to convince me to take it!)... but it fights ANAEROBIC bacteria, which are sort of co-conspirators with yeast. To my knowledge, it is not directly effective against yeast, parasites, or anything other than oxygen-hating bacteria. It worked well for me the first time I took it -- but I didn't know then what I do now, and didn't take advantage of the opportunity to repopulate my colon with good bacteria. I think that gave the yeast an opportunity to really get a foothold... the good bacteria were gone, then the bad bacteria got knocked out too! Yeast acted just like a teenager left home alone! LOL I believe now that it wasn't helpful the next time I took it because the yeast had become the problem, rather than the anaerobic bacteria. Be sure to take probiotics *generously* while on this -- as that space becomes vacant when the bad bacteria die, you want the good bacteria to get there before the yeast does! And for pete's sake DON'T DRINK ALCOHOL!! Flagyl is a chemical cousin to " antibuse " (sp?), the drug they give to alcoholics to discourage them from drinking. As my doctor put it, " It won't kill you, but you'll wish it had! " It doesn't have the famous unwanted side effects of other antibiotics (since they tend to kill oxygen-friendly bacteria). Used properly, it just might make you feel better. But I would say DON'T EVEN PUT ONE IN YOUR MOUTH TIL YOU HAVE A *PRIMO* PROBIOTIC TO TAKE WITH IT! None of these lame one-strain things! I'm partial to PB-8 or Primal Defense. Bottom line: shouldn't hurt, might help. > Can someone please tell me ASAP what FLAGIL is? Is it an antibiotic????? Guest guest
First off stop beating yourself up. You are human and holiday weekends prove to be tough. Forgive yourself. Its over now and all you have is this moment. Secondly, just wondering what your dose is? How are you administering and what exactly you are administering? How many days on vlcd? Was it your tom? Following protocol and drinking your water?? --- Original Message --- From: " angela thomas " <amthomaz77@...> Sent:Mon 7/6/09 9:19 am Subj: HELP.... I have been on Hcg for 24 days and have lost a total of 13 pounds. I had been at a stand still for the last 8 days. That's very demotivating. Bad thing is I was so demotivated this weekend that I did not by any means follow my diet. Is there anyway possible to get back on track after falling completely off? Its Monday morning and now I'm feeling bad about eating the bad things. If anyone has anything for me, please let me know. sasat @

Guest guest
My daughter has had a helmet for 2 weeks now and everything has gone smoothly so far. The last couple of days on the back of her neck (bottom of head) I have noticed some red spots. It's hard to tell cause she has a red birth mark and hair so I have been just keeping an eye on it. Well tonight it is very noticaly bright red. I cannot get a hold of anyone at the clinic until Monday so am not sure what I should do. Should I leave her helmet off tonight? She is a back sleeper should I try to get her to sleep on her tummy? Please help me I have a very tired screaming baby and dont know what I should do!!! Guest guest
The first week my son had his helmet he had huge red blotches on his head that ended up getting rubbed raw by the helmet and then infected. CT told us to leave the helmet off for the weekend. We had an appointment on the following Monday. I would leave it off until you can talk to them. Since it is early in her treatment, it is ok to leave it off for an extended period of time. Guest guest
I would tend to agree that you should probably err on the side of leaving the helmet off for at least some of the time. You want to get it looked at and be able to avoid an infection that would cause you to have to leave it off for longer. Re: HELP....
