Hi Cecily--

My little one is 4-months and in a DOC band, so there are some

differences, but also some similarities. All I can say is hang in

there with tummy time and if you are persistant, Diego will probably

begin to enjoy it. Whether to worry about the potential of crawling--

I'm not sure, there are many schools of thought. My take is that we

should try for crawling, only good things can come. Also, my little

one has mild tort, and the arm strength is suppose to improve that. I

also read an article at CT about how the tort can be directl linked

to facial asymatry, so lots of reason to get that arm strength from

tummy time.

It took us a month before Merrick enjoyed tummy time. We had to start

very slow. We would put him on his tummy for a bit on his diaper

changer every time we changed him. We put a rolled up carters blanket

under his chest. We also used rolled up towels and a boppy. It was

seriously like 5 minutes at a time at first--if that--and it always

ended in tears. I had to keep telling myself--it will get better--it

will get better. We slowly increased the amount of time. Sometimes he

would cry for the five minutes, but he would be mad, so he would push

himself up so it counted. He also enjoyed laying on my husbands chest

and pushing up on that. FINALLY after a month, he thoroughly enjoys

being on his tummy and will stay there and play. The key is to

distract-it can be a mirror, light up/music playing toys, whatever he

likes. I am thrilled that he will play on his tummy because when he

gets the helmet off, he will be off of his head more. I am also very

confident in his strength now, so I can let him sleep on his tummy

(which he prefes) and I can also sleep easy.

Good luck!
