Hi all, (new mom to group)

My son Sebastian has started wearing his helmet this week, He seem

fine with it. Except for the fact that now he only wants to sleep on

his tummy face down. (he is 5months and 3weeks old) we put him to

sleep on his back but he rolls onto his tummy.

My husband and i are so freaked out we have not slept for the last

three days, we just keep watching him and checking him to see if he is

okay.

Has anyone else had this happen with their child? Is it because the

helmet elevates his head from mattress that he is able to sleep in

this way.

Does anyone have any suggestions or advice we are so desperate at this

point we are thinking of taking the helmet off.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

Welcome to the group ,

My son wore a DOC band from the time he was 5 1/2 months old until he was around 9 and 1/2 months. He too liked to roll over to his tummy to sleep. Actual both my son and daughter preferred to sleep on their tummies once they could roll. You can try to make it so they can't roll over, I tried the sleep wedges. This helped for a while. I don't think that the helmet had anything to do with him sleeping on his tummy. Because his sister did it to and she didn't wear a helmet. Some children will naturally prefer to sleep on their tummy instead of their back. As long as they can roll from tummy to back (and visa versa) he should be alright. I would still try the sleep wedge. That helped out my son for a while. (at least until he was able to roll both ways.) We found that during the night he would roll from his back to tummy and tummy to back throughout the night.

Best of luck :)
