Hi. I think that many of us have neglected to go to the Doctor

BECAUSE of our weight. It is really embarrassing to go just to have

them tell you something that you already know, that you need to loose

weight. As far as insurance approval, it really depends on your

insurance company requirements. Mine, for instance, requires that you

have at least two medically supervised weight-loss programs in the

last five years. This could also include some of the weight-loss

places such as Nutri-system, etc. If your doctor had in his records

last July that you talked with him about dieting and he told you to

follow a diet program on your own, that should count, too. If all

else fails, you could join one of those " programs " or have you doctor

weigh you once a week if it is convenient so that you will have some

records showing your effort to diet. I wish you luck on your approval.

doctors tell me I needed to lose weight, but no one ever offered to

help, until very recently. In July my new doctor said he would leave

me on my own to try my diet and exercise program because my blood

pressure is borderline high. I have not lost one iota of weight, and

I go to see him next month.

I have been researching this surgery for about 6 months. Yesterday I

e-mailed my info to the good Dr. R. How long will it be before I

hear something? After reading everyones posts, I can hardly wait.

Now the question: What is the difference between and Durham? I

keep seeing references to this. I am 36 and my weight is 249#. Does

this mean I could get sameday or something? Please fill me it. Also,

I have all ready started typing my patient letter. It is almost 10

pages long all ready. I keep seeing postings that say their letters

were not accepted. Can anyone give me any input? You guys are

great! I have realy enjoy reading everyones posts!! Waiting for the

Dance!!

Thanks

Hi :

The difference between and Durham, is is an offsite

ambulatory surgical center. They can handle limited overnight

patients, but have a very limited staff. is offered only for

self-pay patients, who meet certain criteria. I'm not sure of the

criteria. Their upfront cost is about $4,000.00 less than DRH.

Durham is Durham Regional Hospital, which is about a block from

. That is where all the other surgeries occur. If you have

insurance coverage, your surgery will be at Durham, from what I can

understand. Both places have great care. I couldn't have been more

pleased or more cared for at , so that's my reference point.

Regarding the patient letter...The way they want it is to take each

heading from the patient manual in the letter section, and have a

thorough discussion of each heading, to amount to at least one page

for each heading. If the discussion doesn't cover all the material

for the heading, Dr. R. will reject the letter. The reason for this

is he wants to be absolutely positively sure that you (each of us)

understand exactly what we are getting into, and by showing a

discussion on the good, the bad and the ugle, he feels fairly sure we

have a least a fair working knowledge of the information. This is

very serious surgery. and I for one, appreciate the education

requirement. I've never seen a surgeon or any physician for that

matter, cover patient education as thoroughly.

IMHO

Thanks for getting back to me sooo soon. I hope I'm not self pay but

if it comes to that I will try to use the info. I still need a few

contacts. Would you be interested? How are you doing since your MGB?

I am thinking of going back to work 10 days post op. What do you

think?

Dear Eddie, I couldn't agree with you more about the patient letter, except I am

having a very hard time writing one! I looked over the sample letter and just

changed a few words and personalized it to me... will that work. If I just

write, I constantly get off the subject and babble.. HelP!!

Denial is gone . It happens to most of us. We didn't think we were " that

bad " for so long and once we actually see that the only solution we can truly

get for the long haul is surgery...well we feel very very fat. And we are very

very fat. The key is that we're clever as hell because we are solving our

problem and not just whining about it....pat yourself on the back. You're clever

as hell too. You landed here with us fat folks and we'll carry you right along

with us!

I'm agreeing with Flo, my sister said the other day, (and she's my biggerst

supporter) that I had to reach rock-bottom to accept wls as an alternative for

loosing.. And she is so right.

Now, tho, that I'm on the bottom I really hate being fat! That should really

keep me motivated for the days ahead, especially post op when I'm feeling

blue.. Trudy

,

don't worry I felt the same way. I suddenly realized that all the pain I

pushed to the side from being overweight was having to be dealt with. I was

totally not used to writing my inner feelings down or talking about them. It

was so much easier to ignore them. Just remember - It will all be over

soon!!! Stay positive and focused. Your " thin " person on the inside will be

out soon.

Hi ,

I have been taking the metho now for about 10 months. I don't get

the heat and pain in my joints. That I had before I started on the

metho. I do get fatigue, upset stomach and loose stools just about

every single week though. I assume this is from the metho.

Take care. Hope things settle down for you.

Hi :-)

I remember Dr. Franco ( www.thearthritiscenter.com ) mentioning that

methotrexate has some level of antibiotic-like properties...it kills

micro-organisms. That is why he postulates that the methotrexate

works for some with rheumatic diseases...because he is one of the

doctors who believe that rheumatic diseases are due to a hidden

infection.

Many people who start the antibiotic treatment also initially

experience an amplification of their symptoms and it is explained as

a Herxheimer reaction. A Herxheimer reaction is because the micro-

organisms release a toxin as they are killed by the antibiotic (or in

this case, the methotrexate, possibly?) So......it wouldn't surprise

me if that is the connection.

....just my guess :-) Take care,

Connie H

Susiecue, I have been experiencing the some of the same symptoms that you have. I have never been the type to lay around but I am too sick to do anything else. I cry a lot from all the pain. I still have that infection but I do believe I am in a flare, big time. My whole body hurts, my head hurts and I am so nauseous, too. I am to see the surgeon tomorrow and Rheumy on Aug 1. I asked them if I could please come in earlier than the 1st of Aug. since I don't want to wait and I don't want to see a doctor or be around a hospital on my birthday. (yeah sure)!

Does your whole body hurt you? Whatever this is it sure is terrible. Please let me know what the doctors tell you. I hope you feel better real soon. My thoughts and Prayers are with you.

Oh Sharon, I feel so bad for you and all the pain and suffering that you are going through!!!!!! Is there anything I can do to Help YOU? I said a prayer for you just now and asked the Lord to help you and heal the infection stop the nausea and as Heidi would say put the RP in sleeping mode!!!!!! I know how wearing pain can be and how depressed it can make you feel but I know also that the Lord loves you and will help you through all this. I don't know why you have so much on your plate right now but I do know that He is able to help and comfort you!!! take care and let me know how you are doing, I care. Love Sue Park

It sounds like you have a hobbit (six meals a day) just joking. It seems as if

you have a baby with a big appetite. My first baby would at 5 months (he used

an infa-feeder )8 ounces of baby food and also drink an 8 ounce bottle right

before bed.I think I just have healthy eaters but I think it would be ok to

feed until he wants to stop eating. My 5th baby weighed 9.13 and he ate all the

time (he is 10 and he still eats all the time) .Be Thankful he eats and he has

Hi Val,

My daughter is 12 1/2 months old. She is breast fed 4-5 times a day, 3

meals a day (including jars of baby food and finger foods at each meal)

plus she gets an 8oz bottle of formula right before bed. She is in the

50% for weight and 90% for height. I think they will stop when they

have had enough...at least both my kids do. One thing that has helped

us at this stage is teaching our kids to use sign language to tell us

when they are finished or want more etc... Like today at lunch, I went

to feed my daughter and she pushed my hand away and shook her head " no " .

I said, " are you all done? " and she shook her head " no " again and signed

" more " and " eat " ...she wanted more of her finger foods not the baby

food. It reduces a lot of the guessing and frustration! Our dietician

told us that kids with CF require about 20% more calories than a child

w/o CF. Hope this info helps...

Good luck!

question

hi everybody!!

I didn't check my e-mail yesterday....when I went to bed I felt like

something was missing...It is funny how this board bacome part of

our lifes so fast...i love to ready all the posts and everybody in

this list...everybody is so positive, sweet and funny....I laugh a

lot w/ the " bulls...f..k.... " post.....I don't like curse words but

it was funny how the internet is trick...

anyway...I have a question...it is one of the most silly ones for

sure...I have no idea how to feed a baby...I think I am doing ok to

first time mum, without my mom close to help...but I fell like

something is wrong...first I guess I need to put more liquid in his

diet...he is really constipated (sp?)... and if I don't stop feeding

him he will eat until explode, at least I guess...like tonight, he

ate 1 jar of veggies, than 1/3 of veggies dices + 1/2 jar yogurt +

1/2 jar apple dices, 1 cracker + 1 oz gatorade + peices ok my

linguine w/ tomato sauce...I decide to take him out of the high

chair ( or he would be too heavy for me to lift)and he start

crying...I don't know if I am feeding him too much...too

little....anyone w/ a 11 months old that could help me?? ah, he is

breast feed 3 times a day + 2 meal + bf/meal in a total of 6 meals a

day. he is between the 40% of H and W.

Hi,

Jack is 11mths and today he ate a can of pear and banana with rice cereal

and milk, a toast finger and a bottle of milk for bkfst, a container of

yoghurt, a bottle and a biscuit for lunch, bottle this afternoon, a bowl of

chicken and sweet corn with butter and salt, half a can of custard and

another bottle for dinner and sucked on some chips with salt at dinner with

us. He is on about the 25th%ile for weight and height. I'd just let them eat

as much as they want. I wouldn't worry about them gaining weight I'm sure

they'll lose any extra when they run around in a few months time.

Jack took his first steps today!

WOW My daughter is 7 and she still doesn't eat that much! Count your

meal?

How much does he weigh?
