Guest guest
Hi,One of the mods told me there was a SC question. I'm a "retired" mod. We live in Florence, SC. Both of my girls were banded at CT in Charlotte. We drove the 2 1/2 hours each way for weeks for both. Worth every mile! My girls are 3 and 5 now. Please feel free to contact me with any specific questions. Their story is here: http://www.thefilyaws.com/plagio/plagio.html--- In Plagiocephaly , "ashleysparkles82" <ashleysparkles82@...> wrote:>> Is anyone here from South Carolina? Guest guest
I am from Greenville & my daughter has a STAR Band from Orthopedic Services here in Greenville. My PT (who I trust whole heartedly)used to work with several of the people who work there when they worked at the Children's Hospital here. The only downside is that my daughter isn't being followed by a Craniofacial Specialist there like she would be at CT in Charlotte. However, her case isn't really severe enough to warrant that. She still sees her PT & our Pediatrician (who I also trust whole heartedly) follows her as well. > > Is anyone here from South Carolina? Guest guest
Just to clarify one thing, CT does not have craniofacial specialists, only physical therapists, occupational therapists and/or orthotists that have all been thoroughly trained in banding. Craniofacial plastic surgeons are specialist doctors that typically prescribe the band. It's not necessary to see one, as other pediatricians and neurosurgeons may prescribe the band as well. It's also not necessary to be followed throughout treatment by the specialist. BTW, we are in Raleigh, but also went to the CT in Charlotte and loved them there. Also, I believe there may be 2 STARBand providers in Greenville, and I know of one mom who had a bad experience at one of them, and ended up coming to UNC Hospital her in Raleigh/Chapel Hill. I've heard good things about the other ortho, I just can't remember which was which though! You might want to search old messages for Greenville and see what comes up. (I'll also try to research it myself). Jake-2 (DOCBand Grad 9/19/08) Jordan-4.5 > > > > Is anyone here from South Carolina? Guest guest
Here is one post I found where she refers to PCMH: Hey everybody! I called The Brace Shop this afternoon and spoke with Jill (thank you ). She was really friendly and acted genuinely interested in 's situation. She asked a lot of questions and explained their procedures. They don't have a scanner either, but...oh oh! I almost forgot...she had heard of the pencil trick!!! I almost died! She said they don't do it but that it was an old orthotist trick of the trade! She said it didn't sound as crazy to her as it did to me, but that she could understand why it baffled me so much. Couldn't believe it! So, we have an appt for next week! They got me in so fast. She said they see 30 to 40 babies at any given time! That's more than 3X Greenville! So, I'm taking , his helmet, and (gulp)his records from PCMH and headed for Chapel Hill! This could be interesting! I really hope they tell me that everythings fine, but we'll see. I checked and it was 21 days from casting to fitting! 21 days! So, I'm going to contact Orthomerica on Monday to request a new helmet! Hmmmmmm! The plot thickens! > > > > > > Is anyone here from South Carolina? Where are you being banded? > > > > > >
Guest guest
OK, I found the full name of the place that she switched away from: Pitt County Memorial Hospital Regional Rehab Center in Greenville, NC. Guest guest
We are from Greenville, SC and my son is currently in a Hanger band from Greenville Orthopedic & Appliance Company in Greenville. I believe there are two facilities in Greenville that offer banding (Orthopedic Services (StarBand) and Greenville Orthopedic & Appliance Company (Hanger)). While Orthopedic Services sees many more kids than the other company, we went with Greenville Orthopedic & Appliance Company because they were under our insurance plan. (We actually consulted with both companies before making up our minds.) And we have not been disappointed. The orthotist there (Dara) has been extremely helpful and we are seeing great results. While they may not have the patient volume as some other places, we are pleased with them. We are about 2 1/2 months into banding and are about finished. If there is anyone else in the Greenville, SC area who has any questions, please feel free to contact me. > > Is anyone here from South Carolina?
