In tears over Maysa's broken helmet!

Hi all,

I was in tears this past Saturday and have been so stressed out over

the little sideburn that broke off of Maysa's helmet...

On Friday, we went in for an adjustment because her helmet was

starting to slide down her face again a little and the foamy pad on

her left sideburn was starting to come off. Her ortho removed a pad

from the back, then looked at the sideburn, took the helmet to his

shop and heated it a little to readjust it. He also replaced the

foamy pad but left some sticky residue there that I didn't see until

Saturday.

So Saturday, right after her bath, I am cleaning her helmet and start

rubbing the sticky area and CRACK! The sideburn comes off and

automatically the tears come down. I cried for a good half hour

before I was able to pick up the phone and call their emergency

line. They want to see us this morning at 9am.

Both my husband and I go in with Maysa and her broken helmet. Our

ortho is not here. He is on vacation, so his partner and another

practioner see us. They say that sometimes when the polymer is

heated and twisted a little it loses some of its properties. I

didn't know about it. I was just cleaning the helmet like I am

supposed to.

Anyway, long story short, they say that they'll make a new one for

her when her ortho comes back. In the meantime, they smoothed the

broken corner of the old one and she can still wear it since it

doesn't rotate on her head.

What a relief. I just thought I'd share. Has anybody ever had to

deal with a broken helmet before?
