Guest guest
This has been such a great resource as my husband and I have been struggling to make our decision whether or not to treat our son. Now here is my first of probably many questions. It almost appears as if the band is too small for his head, because the velcro strap doesn't overlap completely when it's closed, and the ear opening is much bigger on the strap side. And on the non-strap side the sideburn covers a bit of his ear. Is this normal? On the other hand, the band doesn't seem very snug, as it shifts a bit, and I can't imagine it doing anything to shape his head. Thanks in advance. Guest guest
,I had the same questions. It sounds very normal. The velcro doesn't match up on ours either. I would call your clinic to ask about it covering his ear though.Good luck!Sandy Son's first afternoon in doc band ... questions! Guest guest
Our STARband has covered a part of my son's ear the enitre time he has had the helmet. Our ortho has put moleskin in it to help it stay in place but Dylan is very active and it just doesn't stay in place. Our ortho assured us that a part of the band covering his ear will not affect the head shape. We have seen great results in 8 weeks so I think she is right :-) Son's first afternoon in doc band ... questions! Guest guest
Hi - It sounds normal. My son's velcro strap lines up at the ends, but his ear hole on that side is much larger than the other side as well. His sideburn on the closed side also touches that first piece of cartiledge of his ear, but doesn't press into it or anything. I personally let that kind of adjustment go until the first week check, since it wasn't bothering my son, so I don't think it's something you need to bring him in for this week. But definitely mention it at the one week check. And of course do call/take him in early if he develops any red spots, but the fit sounds fine. Good luck!
