Guest guest
Hi everyone! My son has positional plagiocephaly (looks like the pictures for brachio). I had been concerned about it since his 4 month ped. visit. She kept blowing it off. I tried sleep positioning with no success...the boy loves sleeping on his back! At his 6 mo well baby visit, I mentioned it again. The ped. said just put a hat on him or don't shave his head * & & ^^%*(( & !!!! I know from research that it is critical to treat within a certain time, so I took him to a specialist. As soon as he walked in he said, " you don't have to be a doc to see his head is as flat as a board " . So, now that he is 7.5 months old, he is going to have to wear a helmet for longer. They are quoting 3-6 months. I am soooo sad. Needless to say, our insurance does not cover it. So, we paid out of pocket. I have UHC, and I am going to try to appeal. Does anyone have any suggestions? I know they have sample letters at the Cappskid site. Anyhow, I am happy to find this group!!!
Guest guest
I have a very similar story with my pediatrician. It's very frustrating! My son didn't get his helmet until last week. He is 9 months old. We were told he would wear it for about 6+ months. I was also very sad, but surprisingly I am now relieved that we finally started. My son doesn't even know it's on his head, and once it's decorated it doesn't seem to draw attention. Most people think he's wearing a really cool hat. I keep reminding myself that this is "correctable," and that many families have to experience much worse. Oprah had a show last week about "Miracle Kids" who have had to go through so much. It really put the helmet in perspective for me. Good luck to you! It'll be OK. :-) Kim Mom of Jimmy STAR band 1 week Just Joining.... Hi everyone!
