Guest guest
It's changed as Elaine has aged and she stopped her second session at 5 months so I'm not sure what would be expected at 9mos. Elaine is also a really bad case She has severe tort and will be getting surgical intervention step one in a few weeks. If that doesn't help enough she'll be getting step two down the road. Here's where we were when we ended. Sessions were running about 45 min. First while I hold her in a sitting position the therapist would get her attention with noise or toys or something and see how far she was willing to look on her own. From there we'd continue with this form of play for a while, both with her sitting and with her laying on her back. Once she's look so far the therapist would hold her there and push just a smidgen further. Then the flat out stretching would commence and this is the worst part. Screaming and carrying on of all kinds. Our therapist would change positions and angles and so on often to keep the stretches going but cut down on her complaining. After 5 min or so Elaine would have enough and just cry. (makes sense too me as it's said to be very painful, like stretching a throbbing charlie horse that won't release.) At this point I'd feed her. While she's eating she lets us streatch her pretty far. When the bottle is over there is more directed play along with arm stretching and more work on the neck neck. Then comes the tummy time and the push ups and stuff like that. Most of the time she cries though the end because she hates anything to do with being on her stomach. So that what PT sessions generally run like for us. I am looking for other treatments for my 9 month old son who has left tort . His PT sessions are really not that great. He is always very miserable. As soon as the PT lady touches him, he gets very fussy and miserable. She is not able to strech him . The only thing she has been doing is taping him and he also started pulling the tape off as soon as he comes home from the session. His titlt has definitely improved but it is still there and I dont think its the PT which is helping him. I think its the play time that is strengthing his neck muscles. I also want to know how long a PT session lasted for you and what does a PT usually do in a session. I just dont see my PT doing any thing. Morover I asked her to increase 30 minute PT session to 45 minute hoping she would get to lot of work with him . But It is really not working . I am actually looking for another PT and also for CST therapist ..Please help !!!! Thanks Chanda
Guest guest
In our experience, PT takes time. Our PT is really good, and makes play the biggest part of therapy. The stretches are always miserable though. Evan is finally nearing the end of PT, having been going since June. Doing the stretches at home helps get them used to them. THat's about the only advice I have though!
