Guest guest
Hi Nina- I know it will be hard, but babies feed off our emotions, so it's really important that you put on a happy face for your daughter when they put the band on her. I recommend come clapping and cheering, even if it's the last thing you feel like doing. If she can associate it with something fun, hopefully it will be an easy transition for her. And don't fuss with it. Once it's on, leave it be and pretend like it's not even there. I did not use nail polish, I used mod podge and it's completely safe. It smells like Elmer's glue when you're painting it on, but it dries with no smell. I also used stickers and they worked just fine. Never tried the rubons (I've had issues using them in flat scrapbook layouts, so I didn't have the patience to try them with a rounded helmet). Good luck with everything! It gets so much easier, I promise! Jake-2 (DOCBand Grad 9/19/08) Jordan-4.5 > > I am very nervous at what my reaction will be when they put the band on > her. Guest guest
Hi Nina-- My best advice is to hope for the best for a smooth transition into the helmet, but be prepared that it is an adjustment time. My LO got his Friday and he is doing fantastick--sleeping through the night and doesn't even notice it. Decorating is also very fresh in my mind. I did three layers of acrylic paint, followed by acrylic stickers, then topped with two coats of modge podge. One mom suggested also doing a layer of modge podge after the paint before the stickers, and I wish I would have done that. I did modge podge over the stickers and whole helmet, and it has been holding up nicely so far. One word of advice....I thoroughly started freaking out when I put the modge podge on, not knowing that it would dry clear (it looked like the whole thing was covered in glue). Not to worry! It drys nicely. I was also very nervous about getting paint inside the band--no trouble at all, I just took my time. I was nervous to paint, but all went well, and I'm so glad I did. Good Luck!! Guest guest
I got a light pink band so no need to paint it, I just want to put Disney theme stickers on it. I don't know what are acrylic stickers or clear backing ones. I went to my scrapbook store and joanns and can only find paper stickers and the rub-ons. where did you get your stickers? Guest guest
Scrapbook stores and 's should have clear-back stickers (they're more plastic than paper, the edging around the image is clear, rather than white). Not sure about the Disney theme specifically, but you should be able to find something. Scrapbookers mainly look for clear backed stickers (at least I do, white paper outlines aren't as pretty in layouts), so I imagine the scrapbook store, and even Joann's should carry something. BTW, I used a clear sticker on my son's helmet with no modpodge or nail polish over it and it lasted about 7 weeks I think (it was on the flat side, not a rounded edge, so that might have had something to do with it). Rubons directly on plastic might not work, I would think paint would actually help make them more adhesive. Not sure about mod podge over top though. I imagine it would keep, but I worry that rubons aren't very easy to use (in my experience), especially on a rounded plastic surface. Guest guest
Since we are on the subject of decorating the bands I have a question...How many people have the bands airbrushed? Anyone out there with this experience? Does it hold up well? And at what point after receiving your band did you have it decorated? Did you decorate it that first day? Thanks, Cole has mild plagio/brachy and is 5 months oldFrom: <nwilkens2275@...>To: Plagiocephaly Sent: Thursday, November 13, 2008 9:19:28 PMSubject: Re: Dina gets band today, I need help decorating it Scrapbook stores and 's should have clear-back stickers (they're more plastic than paper, the edging around the image is clear, rather than white). Guest guest
Hi Nina, We have a light pink helmet too! I have just been using stickers on her helmet and they actually stay on pretty well! The clear back ones will stay on longer and you can actually move them around. I got mine at 's in the scrapbooking section. We have had her helmet for over 5 weeks already- wow- time goes quick, and now I change them more for fun every week or two. Have fun! Guest guest
I need to clear one thing up...the clear sticker I used for 7 weeks was directly on the plastic, which is why it lasted so long even without mod podge. Stickers on top of paint definitely need to be mod podged. Guest guest
I'm sure that paper can work fine as well. I bought my stickers online at sticker giant.
