Most drs look for reasons NOT to band... it's rare to get a proactive dr. Cole's a CUTIE!!!!! His pediatrician and Cranial Tech recommend banding. I dont want to band but feel that all signs point to YES! But I would still like opinions from people who I dont know and who are not family and friends (who of course say they see nothing wrong with his head). Please look if you have a minute under the "C" section. His name is Cole and I called his pics Cole Before Pictures. Merrick is our first, and he just looked like 'Merrick' to me. Now that I know what I am looking for and now that we have had some improvements, I look back at photos and cannot believe that I didn't catch it. Luckily our pediatrician caught it at three months and sent us to CT who was able to take photos and show us what we were looking for. Now when I see those phtos on Entertainment tv of new celebrities and their babies, I can't stop thinking about how round their little baby heads look, a sign that I wouldn't have been happy with myself in the future if I wouldn't have tried to do something now. It was obvious to me (she has an older sister that has a perfectly shaped head) but not to my husband who thought I was seeing things. We ended up getting a helmet for her from the wrong provider in which she wasted three and a half months and 3.5cm growth in circuference. Since Oct 31, at the age of 9 and a half months she's been wearing a DOC band and the results have been amazing so far. In the case of Cole, I see what my daughter Maysa has: mainly brachy with a bit of plagio. It can be corrected, I have no doubt about it. Your baby is still young and now IS the time to do it. Trust me, you'll be glad you started while he is still very young. In my case, although we started early, I feel like we wasted time, so make sure that you choose a good band provider. I am also going to give CST a try. We have our first appointment this Thursday. Good luck! Honestly, I found the decision making part the hardest part of this whole process. Once my son was in his helmet, it just became part of our routine. Take it from ANOTHER mom who wasted time early on, I would go for it now, so he can be done sooner with the best results possible. At this age it will only take 6-8 weeks and the longer you wait, the longer it will take to correct. My twins have been banded for 8 weeks now with fantastic results. I am so happy we did it. Cranial Tech called this morning and said that insurance was going to cover 100 percent of it for sure. So I feel very lucky. I was also glad o hear they dont have to go through that casting method anymore either. All digital! Aetna is my company and I have the PPO plan. Due to him being born this year and my five week hospital stay previous to that we already met our deductible too. So thats why we are nothing at all out of pocket. We also have Aetna, but because we adopted our son from China and he was older than 12 months of age when we returned here to the U.S., they have covered none of the cost. We had such good results from the first band that we went ahead with another one. The good news is that Cranial Technologies has done a fantastic job and we have experienced such a remarkable improvement, but it makes me cringe when I hear someone singing praise for Aetna! We are $6,600 out of pocket for the two bands, as with his age we couldn’t take the time to fight for pre-approval. And now even when shown actual, measurable results, Aetna still won’t pay a dime. Frustrating to me is that they classify the doc band as “experimental” after 12 months of age, but not if treatment begins before? The whole thing is a nightmare but we plan to fight on just on principal – and hopefully we can pave the way for others that run into similar problems? Best of luck and I can say that the band works wonders! We give the actual equipment and the well-trained staff at Cranial Technologies in Phoenix a 10 out of 10 rating for both service and results! I was diagnosed with a condition during pregnancy that has a 95%-100% infant fatality rate (if undiagnosed) and Aetna considered diagnosing it "experimental" as well!
