Guest guest
Some movement is okay but the band should not interfere with her vision and ears. Can you post any pictures? It sounds like it needs adjusted. Some adjustments in the beginning are common to get a correct fit. Angie Rotation on Hanger Band Hi, I'm new, any advice would be greatly appreciated. My daughterMaggie just got her Hanger helmet and it seems to be rotating. Itshifts over her ear and her eye. Is that normal? They said that somemovement is normal at first since the helmets are a little big forthem to grow into, but it seems to be irritating her when it coversher ear.Alice SacramentoMaggie 3/26/08 (and twin brother Owen)
Guest guest
They tried to adjust it, but it looks like they may have to rescan for another helmet. They're saying that the amount of correction needed is causing the helmet to rotate, because they made the helmet at the perfect shape and the gap is so large that even with the pads to correct it it is still rotating. So they may have to make a helmet with a less than ideal shape and change to a different one when she grows into that one. Has anyone else had this experience? They said it may not give as good of results.. This is going to be her third helmet, they keep trying. Glad we told them to move ahead even without the insurance approval at 5 and 1/2 months, we wasted a month waiting for it and then I said do it anyways, and now we're going to be at six still trying to get started.... Guest guest
It doesn't really sound good to me to get a misshappen band that will fit on her head better. it is true that some babies need multiple bands to get maximum correction. However you don't want a band that is going to make her shape any worse in a particular area. Basically the band should hold her head in the prominent areas and have room where her head is flat. If this is the 3rd band by this provider trying to get the right fit, I would change providers. I don't really know who is available in sacramento area though. We got our band in Palo Alto at CIRS (starband) and they also have an office in Oakland. -christine sydney 2.5 yrs starband grad > > > Some movement is okay but the band should not interfere with her vision > > and ears. Guest guest
I know that Pasadena isnt really that close to Sacramento but their is a Cranial Technologies there that does that DOCband and they are great. Here is a link to their website in case you want to check it out. www.cranialtech.com From: christineashok <christineashok@...>Subject: Re: Rotation on Hanger BandPlagiocephaly Date: Saturday, September 20, 2008, 11:16 PM It doesn't really sound good to me to get a misshappen band that willfit on her head better. it is true that some babies need multiplebands to get maximum correction. Guest guest
So we went back for the third scan, but the information they gave me made me feel a bit better that they know what they are doing. The history is that we went for the first scan to the Hangar near us. The orthotist- said that it was his first time going solo on doing the helmets, but he had assisted on many others. He was consulting the other orthotist- Mike in their other office who had done many helmets (80) but was over a half hour drive. The first helmet didn't fit right, velcro wouldn't close. Mike agreed to come out to the office near me to help them do another scan and take a look at the situation. They redid the scan and then we got the second helmet. I went out to Mike to have him do the initial fitting. He fitted it, but that was the one that rotated. We went back and he rescanned. He was concerned that the scanner at the other office wasn't calibrated right. I asked him if it was normally this difficult. He said he had one other one that they had to do 4 helmets before they got the right fit. That baby was lodged in his mom's pelvis causing his plagio. Maggie was the same way. Her plagio is from being wedged in the pelvis right up on the cervix at 28 weeks, putting me in the hospital for a month and bedrest at home after that until her and her brother were born and 36 weeks. Because of this the back of her head is really flat and the occiputs that they normally use to anchor the helmet are part of the plagio issue, which is why there is the rotation. For the other baby they also did a two phased helmet approach to get the better fit initially, and then when things rounded out more, they did another helmet. So ours is a bit of a different situation. I feel better now that I understand the issues. And he said that they just finished the exit scans for the other baby and he'll show me the pictures the next time I'm there. He does seem to really understand what he's doing, so I will be driving the 30-40 minutes to see him instead of dealing with the place closer to me. I just can't see how it's even possible to do something like go to some place like pasadena which is 7 hours from me. I mean there should be multiple follow ups, so how do you even do that?
