Molly,

We are still battling with our insurance company regarding payment for our doc band. My son graduated in May! I was wondering if you have any idea where I can find written documentation stating that STARbands can only be worn for a maximum of 6 months. I've already checked Orthoamerica's site and couldn't find it there. Our ins company won't cover it because CT was out of network for us. However, the ortho at Hanger told us our son would have to wear the band until he was 16 months (he was 6 months at the time). That was our first red flag that he didn't really know what he was doing. Anyway, it would be really helpful in our fight if we were able to produce something in writing proving that the ortho was an unacceptable choice.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Amy

STARbands are only designed to be worn for a maximum of 6 months; afterthat, they lose their strength and ability to hold and won't do any good.Even if there is foam still left in the band is isn't good to continuewearing it. So, from that standpoint you should definitely stop wearing theband once you hit the six month mark. While we didn't have any bumps around the ears I have heard that it iscommon for there to be some fluid build up that goes away once you graduatefrom the band.MollyNovato, CaliforniaNicolas, 2.5, tort & plagio, STARband (CIRS Oakland) 4/24/06-9/12/06,Graduate!, 5.5, 8.5-----Original Message-----From: Plagiocephaly [mailto:Plagiocephaly ]On Behalf Of kelly.soderSent: 13 August 2008 08:35Plagiocephaly Subject: Who should I listen to pediatrician or orthodist? My son just turned 1 and has been in his starband for about 6 months and are very pleased with the results. We were told that somewhere around 1, the head hardens and growth will slow, so we may not see much change from now on. The orthodist said his measurements were good, but his head could still round out a (very)little bit more. So, keep it on for another month. But then our pediatrician said that his head looked good and for peace of mind, just wear it at night for the next month. Who do we listen to?? Another note, the ear holes were cut too big and now he's got bumps around his ears (where the helmet isn't covering). The orthotist said it would round out once the helmet was off. But, I don't trust anyone now who says "It'll round out on it's own." I'm afraid it'll only get worse if we keep it on as the band is getting tighter now. Is it worth the risk? Who should we listen to? Any advice would be appreciated!------------------------------------For more plagio info
