Guest guest
We got the aveeno oatmeal baby bath and made a paste, then put it on my daughter's head while bathing her. Also when I started noticing her scalp looked dry I stopped using shampoo every time, and sometimes just rinsed her head with water. When she did have the band off we distracted and played with her to keep her from scratching her head. She didn't seem to be itchy when the band was off. -christine sydney 2.5 yrs starband grad > > Hi All > > > My son has been in band for almost 7 weeks now. He started scratching his itchy head from past 4 weeks. I have switched his baby shampoo to aveeno hoping his itchiness woul dgo away. It seems he has developed a chronic itchiness now. In his last appointment , when I mentioned about it to the clinician at CT, she said its normal . But , it seems to be very inconvenient for my baby. He can not stop himself from scratching. When his helmet is off, he can not stop scratching hs head even for a SINGLE second. With his helmet on, the poor baby keeps scratching on his helmet itself and i can see how uncomfortable he is .. He shows it all the time. I noticed his scalp geting very dry especially above the neck. I also noticed his lymph nodes at the neck getting enlarged. I have a well check appointment with his PED on NOv 3rd and I would bring it up with his DR about this. > > Can any one please tell me if you ever had this situaton and what worked for your baby ? Please help. Is there anything I can buy from the store , like a shampoo or oil? Can I take off helmet for half a day and see if that would improve anything. Please let me know . Guest guest
We use tea tree shampoo; our ortho said that any kind of other shampoo can cause scalp irritation. Tea tree shampoo works wonders on dry scalps and my daughter has not had an itchy scalp since we started using it (and my 4 year old had cradle cap for years and this was the only thing that finally got rid of it.). Might be worth a try if the Aveeno doesn't work. kristine
Guest guest
Hi Chanda (and to anyone else dealing with cradle cap and itchiness)- Before my son got his band, he had some really scaly cradle cap. I was concerned that the band would make it worse. During his photostudy at CT, where his cradle cap was visible and gross, I said something about it and the lady taking the pictures recommended extra virgin olive oil. She said it cleared her daughter's cradle cap right up. So I tried it and it worked like a charm, the cradle cap was completely gone within two hair washings. I would imagine it would help with itchiness as well, apparently it has natural antioxidents in it that help (in the extra virgin variety specifically). I think it would be worth a shot. My only concern is that even after washing the oil out with shampoo 2 or 3 times, his hair would still appear oily the next day and I'm not sure what that would do the foam of the band if you were to put it back on him. He did have a lot of hair though, so maybe babies with less hair wouldn't see as much oily build up. It took an extra bath without using the oil to really get it all out and return his hair to normal. Maybe run it past an ortho first to see what oily residue would do to the foam. One day or so without wearing the band shouldn't be a problem, especially if, in the long run, you clear up the itching problem. Please let us know if you try it and if it works Good luck! Guest guest
Hi I was going through all the replies to my email and I saw your questions. My son had cradle cap when he was younger . Now he is 9 months old and has been in band for 7 weeks. I was using s and s and it was making his scalp dry. I switched to Aveeno baby wash and shampoo . It does not work either . Today I tried California Baby wash and shampoo. I will try it for a week and see its going to improve or not. If it does not, then I am thinking to get a tree tea oil shampoo which is supposed to be very good for itchy scalp. I will keep you guys posted.-Chanda From: kp7523 <kris345@...>Subject: Re: PLEASE HELP !!!!
