I have never heard of anyone having surgery to correct positional

plagiocephaly. It is done when a child has craniosyntosis but that is

because the skull bones are fused and a band won't correct it. Who is the

doctor that you are seeing and where is he located? Perhaps someone has

some personal experience with him. If you want more information on treating

an older child with plagio I would suggest checking out the Older Plagio

group:

They should be able to tell you about some alternatives to surgery. You may

want to try some alternative methods before taking the drastic step of

having surgery done. I think that surgery involves cutting open the scalp,

cutting a piece of the skull off and positioning it so that the head doesn't

look flat anymore which sounds like major surgery.

What type of band did your son have and how long did he wear it for?

Reconstructive surgery for 3 year old

Hi,

My son had moderate plagio. It is enough to bother me. I had him in a

helmet at 18 months

but it was really too old to make a big difference.

I did some research and found a plastic surgeon who does surgery to correct

positional

plagio. I have a consultation with him in a few weeks (earliest I could get

in) but I basically

know nothing about the surgery. I asked the receptionist who set my app.t

and she doesn't

know much but she did tell me a lot of kids like 2-6 year olds come in for

abnormal head

shapes and the surgery does correct it. I just am anxious to know the

details of it and

mostly how invasive and risky it is (receptionist didn't know).

Does anyone know about this surgery to correct plagio?

Thanks for listening,
