Guest guest
Hi Everyone,I'm a "retired" mod. One of the other mods let me know folks were posting some questions on the smooshed eye look and red sideburns. My oldest, na, had these issues. Quick background:na - 5 yrs old on June 11banded at 4 1/2 months with Doc Band #1 (Charlotte office)banded at 6 months with Doc Band #2graduated 8 monthsCranial Vault 11 mm - 7 mm - 3 mmEars 9 mm - 7 mm - 4 mm at 2 1/2 years old was measured with 2 mm cranial vault and 3 mm ears, so 1 mm post grad correction Long Version http://www.thefilyaws.com/plagio/plagio.html Both bands she had a constant smoshed left eye. The left temple area was a key holding point and they wanted to hold it low because of her forehead bossing. She really had no right temple when we started. It always looked like she was squinting. I asked every week about it. Every week and every therapist I got the same answer. The band pushes the skin around at the eyebrow because it can. This can cause a bit of fluid build-up and smoshed eye look. It's usually nothing to worry about. However, I would ask frequently if it bothers you and make sure it is still working as intended and watch for "angry" red spots. Sliding down and blocking vision is a not good. Getting pushed down during active play (rolling around) or sleeping is normal and you can just unvelcro and reposition when you notice it. yes, I did this a million times. Kiersten, my youngest, is also a DOC grad - don't get me started on the shape of my pelvis. Her band rode very low on the eyebrows and required frequent repositioning, especially in the beginning. As her head began to correct it became less frequent. About 1 week into the first band na got a red rash on her left sideburn area. We determined it was heat rash. After her bath we dried the area well, applied a tiny amount of 1% cortizone cream, rubbed it in well and let it dry. It was gone in a few days. Your child is most likely to develop a heat rash in the first few days of wearing the band. However, any time he/she gets overheated it could happen. The key is keeping the area dry. If need be, take the band of numerous times a day and dry the band and head with an absorbant towel. This can be done quickly and not compromise the 23 hour wearing guidelines. I hope that helped. mom to na (doc grad now 5!) and Kiersten (doc grad now 3!)
