Guest guest
I have heard from other members that Cranial Tech has advised people not to get the band before. So I would go with what you think. Does her headshape concern you? If so than you are doing the right thing by banding. I knew with my daughter that I would not be happy if her headshape didn't improve any on its own. Angie So upset with daughter's pediatrician So I took my daughter to her 5 month well baby visit...yes our office is weird usually most dr's omit this month....anyways we are going through everything and he feels her head and says oh her head is so much better. At this point im a little confused because we just went for the dsi scan for the DOCband Friday. They didnt seem to think her flat spot had changed since last month. I said to him well you referred me to cranial technologies and they suggested that we get the band, so we went a head with it. He said to me really? They tell everyone we send over there that they need one. now im really pissed i didnt even know what to say. y put me through all of this if you dont even think we need it. who do i trust? y do pediatricians take this so lightly? i am so annoyed! Guest guest
I think if your child does not have very severe Plagiocephaly you have to make the call our ped told not to worry to much our sons hair would grow and cover it up, i could not believe it!! i felt very strongly that we should whatever we could to help our son as i know how cruel children and teenagers can be about the slightest thing and i did not want my child to be teased about his "flat head". We also have a friend who is in his late 40's who is now going bald who has Plagiocephaly and is having a really hard time of it. This helped to finally make up my mind on the issue. Bottom line look at it as if you are doing everything in your power to ensure your child's happiness. If you have a bad feeling about your pediatrician you may want to find someone a little more attentive. Guest guest
the crazy part is that they were the ones that referred me to begin with and the flatness isnt too bad but has cause facial assymetry and thats why i decided to band? thats a good enough reason right? Guest guest
That's awful if you felt pushed into a band and you're kid's head shape was fine. We went to CT and they didn't seem pushy at all. They recommended not getting a band, not because he didn't need one, but because of my son's diagnosis of poor muscle tone. The CT tech, who is a physical therapist, thought the weight of the band would hurt his development. My son is already in pt and his therapist and our Dr. said it would be fine so we went ahead and got the band. I can see how it would be different for a parent on the fence. I was very upset by the shape of my sons head and it only got worse from repositioning (turned brachy into plagio + brachy) and was waiting with baited breath for the neurosurgeon to give us the ok for a band. I knew he needed at band at 2 1/2 months and he didn't get one until 5 months. It was so upsetting watching his head getting flatter and more mishapen month after month despite spending almost 500 bucks on different positioners and mattresses. Our neurosurgeon said CT can be pushy but the person we dealt with was very nice. Perhaps they could tell I really the band so they didn't need to " sell " it. - > > I have heard from other members that Cranial Tech has advised people not to get the band before.
