Guest guest
That's awesome! You are so blessed to have such an early start.Best Wishes,,Mom to Elijah DOC Band Grad 8/11/08From: Kate <rtkate@...>Subject: Looks like it's helmet timePlagiocephaly Date: Tuesday, September 23, 2008, 10:42 AM Well, after a lot of thought looks like my little Connor will be getting a helmet. He gets his therapy for tort through Early Intervetion but I also started getting him additional therapy privately too..and today the therapist I saw said we should definatley not wait on the helmet..she' s the first person who's actually taken this seriousely!! She said the same thing most of you have told me..that the earlier the better so this just confirms it for me. She pointed out minor assymetry in his eyes I hadn't even noticed too. So, we'll be making our doc appointment and get this started. At least he'll have the helmet over the cold months and I'm hoping since he's only 3 1/2 months now he won't have to wear it long. I feel so sad now though knowing this has to happen..but I know in the long run Connor will thank me for it! Kate
Guest guest
Our orthotist said that they try not to start babies on helmets until 6 months because it can delay their neck development due to the added weight? Has anyone else heard of this?I would say it's definitely good to get started on it, we started the process at 4 months and with all the issues and insurance and such she'll only start wearing the helmet at 6 months... Guest guest
I have heard that some won't treat until 6 mo,but it is not that common. my daughter got her band at 5 mo and was a big strong girl with no neck problems. Also growth is faster before 6 mo, so you can get more correction in less time. I don't think it is a good idea to rule out bands for all young babies, but maybe there are some cases where waiting might be good. Also it depends on the band. Star and Hanger usually weigh about 9oz. docbands weigh about 6 oz, so that might also be something to consider. -christine sydney 2.5 yrs starband grad > > > > From: Kate <rtkate@...> > > Subject: Looks like it's helmet time > > Plagiocephaly > > Date: Tuesday, September 23, 2008, 10:42 AM > > > > Well, after a lot of thought looks like my little Connor will be > > getting a helmet.
