My daughter got her helmet when she was 5 and a half months old. She started with brachy at 100% and plagio at 7mm. She is now down to 96% and 2mm (as of her 2 months scan -- she's been in the helmet for 2 and a half months or so). I would love for her to get into the 80's.

I've had my share of doubts and worries and fears throughout this whole process. I did expect better results faster, so I go back and often check pictures. Tonight, I found two that really help me see that we've made the right decision. The two pictures are of her right profile where her flat spot was. Her head used to be so flat and cony (in my opinion). Looking at the "now" picture on the right, I can see how much it has rounded out in that area and I am thrilled already.

She might never be within the normal range, but I am already very happy as it is. Her ortho thinks that she'll be in her 2nd helmet for another 2 months or so. As much as I want her out of it, I want her to be in it until she cannot get any more correction.

Anyway, I posted her pictures in the M folder. Look for the side by side pictures of Maysa.

Hi,

baby A had brachy 96 percent from birth and plagio .6. the stupid specialist we saw when she was 3 months said "i've seen much worse, it won't matter if her head is a little deformed, her hair will cover it, and she'll round out on her own if you use bags of rice to reposition, and exersaucers and bumbo seats and tummy time."

after all the repositioning we realized the problem was better but NEVER would go away on its own, so we got her in a helmet at 6 months.

they think her brachy will correct to 89 percent (it's at 93 after a month) and the plagio is already at .3.

could i have gotten more brachy correction if i had started earlier?

thanks

Hi Leila,

it does look like Maysa got some good correction at the bottom/back of

her head. The shape is a lot better in the side view. Hopefully you'll

get more correction on the brachy with the new helmet too. does she

have the new one yet?

Maysa did get her second helmet last week. It fits her so well and she hasn't had any red spots or anything. This second helmet sit a little lower on the back of her head and doesn't rotate back and forth like the first one did initially.

I think that the first one did a great job correcting the plagio, which I could really see at only 7mm. I hope that this one does something about the brachy. I think that if she grows another 1cm to 1 and 1/2cm in the back I'd be happy.

I'd post pictures of her second helmet but I think that I've exceeded my quota!

Thanks,

Leila

I think Maysa's pics after the first band look great - a pretty big

improvement! Good luck with the second band!
