DOES ANYONE KNOW WHETHER THE LONGTERM USE OF THE ANTIBIOTIC DOXYCYCLINE OR MINOCYCLINE WOULD BE CONTRAINDICATED OR WOULD NEGATE THE EFFECTS OF LDN?

I have been taking ldn for Polymyositis (an inflammatory muscle disease) for about 3 months and had felt I was making good progress. However in the last 6 weeks my Osteoarthritis of the Knee suddenly became very severe, making walking again more difficult. Several doctors have long recommended doxycycline or minocycline for Rheumatoid Arthritis, and I believe a few rheumatologists have begun to recommend it for RA, but they did not feel that it would be useful for Osteoarthritis. However in 2005 a UCLA Arthritis Update newsletter referenced an excellent study by Brandt, et al, published in the Journal of Arthritis and Rheumatism, in which 100 mg of doxycycline twice a day over 30 months was found to have a marked effect in slowing the loss of knee cartilage in Osteoarthritis of the Knee--not because of its antibiotic properties but because it blocked an enzyme which destroys knee cartilage.

I would like to try doxycycline, but I wonder how it might interact with or affect my use of LDN?See what's free at AOL.com.

Hi,

I don't think there would be a problem taking LDN with any antibiotic.

The person to ask, however, is Dr. Skip Lenz, a licensed pharmacist and

an expert on LDN. He can be contacted at

slenzrph@...

A nutritional supplement that might of help is

glucosamine/osteochondroitin.

You might also consider the alternative arthritis treatment approach
