Guest guest
Please someone help with this. My son's hair smells awful even after washing it twice and drying it. What can we do about this??? And the Band.....WOW....no matter what we have done, it does not work. 5mths, 2wks in STARBand > > Please tell me someone knows of something to deodorize a Starband > helmet!!! Guest guest
Well there are a couple of things to try. The first is a smellier shampoo. We used Suave for Kids blueberry on my son and it disguised the smell pretty well. If I really sniffed his head you could still smell a little bit of the sweaty band underneath it all, but even when we would first take his band off for his bath, it was more a mix of sweat and blueberry, so not too terrible. For the band itself, you can try scrubbing it with a dry rough cloth first, it helps to remove some of the grimey buildup, before going at it with a toothbrush and rubbing alcohol. If it's still sunny in your parts, you can also try setting it out in the sun for a while, it helps kill the bacteria. That's really it. I wouldn't use anything else on the band unless you ask your ortho first (typically anything with added scent is going to be a skin irritant). Also, have you had your first adjustment yet? I found that the smell was better right after an adjustment because they scrape some of the sweaty foam away to reveal a fresh layer each time. Other than that, you kind of just sort of get used to it (I found as long as he had it on, it wasn't so bad, it was usually only when I had to take it off to wash it that I would sometimes cringe at the smell). Guest guest
Thanks for your help. I've been using alcohol and IF the sun ever comes back I'll try that. I might just have to try the mint alcohol. Never seen that before. Anyone else have ideas?? ~Kristi > > Please tell me someone knows of something to deodorize a Starband > helmet!!! Guest guest
We used the kids Loreol fruity shampoos. Our favorites were the strawberry and blueberry. Guest guest
It seems to get less stinky over time. My daughter's skin is a little sensitive, so I used only alcohol on the band and very mild shampoo for her head (no fruity stuff). I wouldn't say it ever smelled great but after about a month is seemed to be pretty manageable. -christine sydney, almost 3 yrs, starband grad > > Please tell me someone knows of something to deodorize a Starband > helmet!!! Guest guest
Hi Kristi, My son got his Starband in August- and so they put holes in the back of it. I am not sure if they would do that now- but that is one thing that has helped out tremendously (sp) with the smell and the sweating. The only time he really sweats in it is when he plays hard or is outside for awhile- then I scrub it really good with 91% alcohol and let it air dry. Hope this helps! > > Please tell me someone knows of something to deodorize a Starband > helmet!!! Thanks, > ~Kristi >
Guest guest
Thanks again to everyone that helped with your ideas. I went and bought mint alcohol and it seems to help and it definitely isn't as bad anyways. I think it was the first week of not being able to clean it so the orthodist could adjust properly. Thanks again! ~Kristi > > Please tell me someone knows of something to deodorize a Starband > helmet!!! Thanks, > ~Kristi >
