We are taking Tori in to get the digital scan of her head today. Im

really happy that they don't use the plaster anymore. Can anyone tell

me how this appointment will go and about how long it is.

Hi there-

The DSi scan literally takes fractions of a second to snap. You will

have Tori down to her diaper and they put a net stocking cap (like

pantyhose) over her entire head. It's mesh and see through, so it's

safe, it's just that some babies probably won't like it much (my son

screamed the first time he was scanned, but when we did it again for

his exit scan, he was fine). They might need to snap the image a

couple of times to make sure they get it. Then you go back to the

patient room and wait while they check to make sure they got what they

needed and transmit it to headquarters in Phoenix to be sure it is

acceptable. If it's not, you'll have to rescan it, otherwise you're

done.

Did you already have beginning photos and measurements taken? If not

they will do those as well which would make the whole appointment

about an hour. If it's just the DSi, it will probably take about a

half hour.

Which CT are you going to? We went to Charlotte.

Good luck!

-We are going to CT in Clinton Connecticut. Our appt is 4pm and im a nervous wreck. I know this is the right thing to do but this is like it...no turning back...I keep thinking my poor little princess has no clue what is coming. I have time to get used to the idea but she doesnt. We did have a photo study done on our consultation but never recieved any measurements....is that when they take that metal thing and measure different parts of her head? Tori tried to eat whatever that was...but we never got numbers from them. Maybe they will give it all to us today I dont know. I dont think she is going to like having the stocking over her head. Hopefully they get it in the first few shots. Did you take pics? Im still decided how much I want to remember this whole experience. Im thinking I

should since this is apart of her...idk im everywhere today....have kept busy doing chores and things since I got up at 9 this morning.

It went so fast that I didnt even get to take a pic. She looked so funny in the nylon...lol. She was a trouper. She tolerated it fine until they started adjusting her legs on the stool then she started to fuss a big but not full out crying. Im so glad that the process has begun and that we are on our way to a rounder head. Im still trying to prepare myself for the band. I hope she adjusts well and that there arent too many nasty people out there. Still didnt get any more measurements. Im not really too concerned that I didnt get any. If it needs to be done then it needs to be done. They said that they will call me to come in if the band comes in before our ten day appt. nicole did yours come in early? Ok just wanted to give and update. glad its over with.

My son was casted for his first band, and in comparison to that, the DSi is a breeze, really. You will be fine. I did take pictures of Jake's casting and first DSi (for his second band), I'm a big scrapbooker, but I did not take pictures of his exit DSi (my husband wasn't there that time, so I was busy keeping my 4 year old out of the way and getting Jake's attention). Yes, the measurements were taken with that metal thing (calipers) :). I don't think CT routinely gives out measurements because they do things more visually, they don't do measurements again until the end of treatment and only make adjustments based on head circumference and what they see visually. I believe they did give me the first set of measurements at our eval, but I had to ask for the other two sets (after his first band and after his second band). Hope things go well today. Please let us know how she

does.Jake-2 (DOCBand Grad 9/19/08)Jordan-4> >> > We are taking Tori in to get the digital scan of her head today. Im > > really happy that they don't use the plaster anymore. Can anyone > tell > > me how this appointment will go and about how long it is.> >>

I wasn't aware that they were no longer doing the casting... I always

wanted to have my sons heads scanned to see the computer analyzed

measurements, versus those taken while they were wiggling

constantly... For some reason, I was never given an exit mold or

whatever to show the before and after, and I 've always wanted to see

the progression. They graduated when they were 10.5 mos old and they

just turned 18 mos old. Do you think I could go back to the LO and

request a scan to see their current measurements? I can call, but I

wanted to see if anyone had any insight on doing something like

that...

Thanks,

Hi Shenelle-

Did you go to an actual Cranial Tech office or did you go to the

ortho in Texas that is licensed to use the DOCBand but is not really

overseen by CT headquarters? (I can't remember the name or location

of that office off the top of head). If you went to the regular

ortho, they will not have the DSi scanner, only the actual CT

clinics have them. Also, if it is the actual CT office, CT doesn't

really put a lot of weight into measurements, so their DSi scanner

does not provide measurements like the StarScanner does for StarBand

users. It's main purpose is for use in making the custom fit

helmets, and also offers visual assessment as improvement/change

occurs. In addition, whether an exit cast/image is taken by casting

or scanning, the actual exit mold is not poured unless you request

it and pay an extra 75 dollars. Otherwise, the cast or scan is kept

on file in case there is any concern regarding regression down the

road (they'll have an exact record of what the baby's head looked

like when they graduated). My son was casted for his first band, but

scanned for his second. If they were still doing the casting, I

would have done it for the second band, obviously, but probably

would not have put him through it a 3rd time for the exit mold.

Since they moved to scanning, all babies will automatically be

scanned at graduation, but the exit mold is still optional. I chose

to pay the $75 and the mold will be mailed to me when it's done.

Also, since my son was only scanned for his second band, the exit

scan could only be compared to his mid-way head shape, and not his

original " before " head shape. That's part of the reason why I wanted

the exit mold poured, so when I get it, I can actually compare it to

his very first mold and see how far we've come.

Hope this info helps!

OK that makes a lot more sense... yes, I went to OPA in the

Woodlands...it's not an actual CT clinic, but they did the casting

and all adjustments there...they, too, told me not to focus on the

numbers as much as the visual of the baby's head...but in a way, I

wish I had computer generated images to look at and compare with

other grads to see if we made the right decision... my husband wishes

I would just leave it alone and not worry about it anymore, but even

though it's been 7.5 mos since we graduated them, I still sometimes

go back and forth on whether we did the right thing...especially

because I know it's not too late to do more... maybe I'm just trying

to achieve perfection here, but I never really got any definite

answers on the final outcome, and I feel like that would put my mind

at ease...do you think I could still go to a CT clinic for a free

eval, or even a starband clinic if there's one in the area? please

be honest, though, is my husband right...am I just being crazy? I'm

really not " that " mom, I swear...
