Guest guest
From what I've read, almost all of the children adjust within a couple of weeks. My son had excessive sweating, but that was his only issue, other than occasional red spots. My mother-in-law was also very uncomfortable with the helmet my son had and she watches him twice a week. I think that her biggest problem was that she was afraid of what other people would think. She also felt that he was perfect the way he was and couldn't see his misshapen head. I printed out some info from cappskids.org and gave to her to read over. I think that it made her a little more comfortable in case anybody ever asked her about it, although nobody ever did. I think that it did answer some of her questions about why he had to wear it. It may also help with some of your own concerns. Guest guest
Here is a big virtual hug for you. My son is just ending his treatment with a STARband. He was almost 5 months when the banding started. We have been banded for 7 weeks now and am happy to say we have just 2 weeks left! Remarkable. Anyways, I dont have great advice. Im sorry to say it took my son a week to sleep in his helmet for any length of time. He still wakes 2 or more times per night because he is uncomfortable (this was a sleep through the night baby since 2 months old!!) It has been a big sleep adjustment for my husband and I but IT IS WORTH IT! Just remember that. Each night, each nap, remember what the end point is. It will get better, it will take time. Hope he adjusts quickly for you!! > > My son is 5 months and has had the band on for 5days. He is doing ok > but he is not himself. Guest guest
Good to hear you are only having to deal with the band for 9 weeks! I think I can handle that. If we do get a band I hope my son will only be in his for that long too. He is 5 months old but was a month early so he is technically 4 months. So I guess treatment right now would be the most optimal time to do it. I am VERY worried about the sleeping thing though. He has slept 12 hours at night since he was 2 months old. He is such a good sleeper. Im going to feel so bad for him knowing that he is uncomfortable. But maybe I will get lucky and he will continue to sleep right through the night....~ 5 month old with plagioFrom: jannabelle2121 <jannabelle2121@...>Plagiocephaly Sent: Tuesday, October 28, 2008 4:52:28 PMSubject: Re: New to the Banding Family and very mixed up about it! Guest guest
I just wanted to chime in that, in my experience, it wasn't the helmet that was causing the fussiness. Perhaps he is hot..? My boys took about a week to get past the sweating stage, and then it was no big deal. Have hope that things will get better very soon for you and your little one... babies adjust surprisingly well to new things... overall, i would say that the helmet therapy was more of an adjustment for me (daily routine, etc) than it ever was for them. And take comfort in knowing that you are doing the best thing for him right now. Best wishes... Shenelle Katy, TX > > > > My son is 5 months and has had the band on for 5days. Guest guest
That is awesome. I can only hope I will have the same luck if we go forward with the band! Is there anyone out there that has received their DOCband from the phoenix location?~ 5 month old with plagioFrom: Migliore <heather_migliore@...>Plagiocephaly Sent: Thursday, October 30, 2008 6:08:58 PMSubject: Re: Re: New to the Banding Family and very mixed up about it! my daughter still sleeps through the night. she has had the band for 3 1/2 weeks Tori-DOCband From: Knapp <knapp1307 (DOT) com>Subject: Re: Re: New to the Banding Family and very mixed up about it!PlagiocephalyDate: Thursday, October 30, 2008, 1:08 AM Good to hear you are only having to deal with the band for 9 weeks! Guest guest
We started to do better early in the week; slept through the night, he was joyful and happy and then Thursday hit and like a ton of bricks squashing a grape...out of control...He wakes up every 3 hours, we have tried to adjust the band to see if it was irritaitng him(can not find anything) he just cries and this went on again last night. Unfortunatly, I still have to get up and go to work and be alert and ready. We have tried everything it seems. Our next Ortho appt is Friday the 7th should we wait until then to ask about this with the Ortho? My mom seems to be having troubles keeping him during the day because he will not sleep or lay down at all. Thanks for the much needed advice and I am trying to be positive..I rock Ry to sleep and comfort him when he wakes up..He's my little man and I hate to see him so uncomfortable. , 5mths, 2nd week in. > > > > > > My son is 5 months and has had the band on for 5days.
