Guest guest
had our initial scan for our girls today. they're so identical that they have the same measurements only in reverse (their flat spots are on the opposite sides of their heads). They are 9mm off, so not quite " severe " but could definitely benefit from the bands. the orthotist seemed to think it'd be 2-4wks before we had approval from our insurance (we have BC/BS), I'm not as ocnvinced they'll cover it since it's not officially severe. anyone know whether severity is a major criteria for approval? does anyone know if the decorated starbands cost more than the plain ones? we'll keep you posted when we get the bands Lynn mom to Dylan, 3yrs old, DocBand grad and to Daphne & , 6 mo old, StarBand candidates Northern Indiana
Guest guest
This is going to sound really stupid, but I assume they're twins? That could help you make a good case to appeal to your insurance if they're twins and you need to appeal - their plagio (I'm assuming) was most likely caused by intrauterine constraints, so it's a congenital condition and your pediatrician could write BC/BS a letter of medical necessity based on that. Insurance companies often do base approval for treatment on objective measurements, though, so the fact that they aren't considered " severe " might be an issue. Hopefully it won't be and they'll cover it - I'll cross my fingers for you!!! My son has a DOC, so I have no idea about the cost of a decorated Starband v. a plain one - but they ARE cute!!! I'm sort of thinking that they'll say, sorry it's not " severe " so it's just cosmetic- but I appreciate the other poster (sorry forgot who said it) that said it might make a difference that they're twins-- I'll keep that in mind for our dr's letter of necessity. thanks for the input. we'll let you know what happens.
