Re: How to decorate band

I painted my son's bands many many many times. You can use the small

bottles of acrylic paint sold at 's. They're usually 2 for a $1

or something like that. The brand names are escaping me right now

(which is odd, because that basket of paint sat on my dining room

table for 7 months). I also used all types of stickers (paper, clear,

vinyl), then covered it all with mod podge to keep it protected as

long as possible. Each paint job usually lasted about 3 weeks,

depending. I would also touch it up in between because I couldn't

stand the nicks and flaking that would start to happen when my son

would bump or scuff his head on something.

Hang in there! This is most stressful time for you and it will get

easier. Decorating will make it fun for you. Good luck!

I should clarify, you can just peel the paint off and start all over

each time you want to change the design. Some moms don't know that,

it's all removable, especially when you have to put 3-4 coats of

paint, then stickers, then 3-4 coats of mod podge. It peels off

really nice in almost one big piece.

I have to admit that I am a bit on the lazy side - I didn't see

myself having the time to decorate Jake's helmet (although it sounded

like fun to be able to change the design whenever I wanted). Jake is

in his 6th day of his STARband and we have the blue helmet with race

cars on it - we have gotten a lot of compliments on it.

I think we all went through the crying stage - I know I did. My son

Jake is in his 6th day with his STARband and it's as if he doesn't even

know it's ther- seriously, he is still sleeping " like a baby " . We have

gotten pretty used to seeing him in it as well - and he does look

pretty cute. His blue helmet with race cars matches his beautiful blue

eyes!

I almost think that it is good that it takes a couple of weeks to get

the helmet after the casting or scanning because this gives the parents

time to accept and deal with the situation - at least I know that is

how it was for us.

I am so happy that we decided to help Jake in this way - and I know

that we are only at the beginning of the process, but so far no regrets!

Good luck!
