Guest guest
We are on day two with our new helmet. Luckily my daughter has taken to it pretty well. I am a little concerned how close it comes to her eyebrows- I know she has plagio and brachy so it can't be as band like as other kids might have. Is it normal for the band to slide around a little, our ortho said that she will grow into it. We used a local place that our ped recommended and took his own son too, but I hope that wasn't a mistake. He is a wonderful person and very patient, but I hope the fit is as good as possible. My daughter also always has a mark on the side of her forehead and down near her ear that takes a long time to go away from the edge of the helmet- has anyone else experienced this? Thanks for your help! Mom to McKenna- 6 months- day 2 in helmet
Guest guest
My daughter was having the exact same issue & when I took her back today for a 1 week follow up, they corrected that. It was too tight on the side where her forehead bulges out & they were able to remove a bit of the foam & then cut it just a bit above her eyes so that didn't happen anymore. (My daughter has a STAR band, so, not sure if the kind you have works the same way.) When do you go back? If you aren't scheduled for a follow up next week, I would make an appointment. They told me there it definitely shouldn't do that. day 2 helmet- is sliding normal? We are on day two with our new helmet. Luckily my daughter has taken to it pretty well. Guest guest
Hi - It's not uncommon for the band to shift a little bit at first, I know my son's was kind of low towards his eyebrows for the first week or so, but then it kind of fixed itself as he grew into it. I'm not sure about the red mark though. I wouldn't be too worried yet about the band or ortho, the first week is definitely an adjustment period. Usually the ortho likes to wait and see how it fits for the first week before making any drastic adjustments. Do you have a one- week check up? Most orthos do. If there is any concern that the skin is breaking down or blistering when you check the red areas, you should leave it off until you can get her in to the ortho on Monday. But if the red area stays the same or gets better, it should be fine to wait until the first check. But of course, do what you feel comfortable doing. These things always tend to happen on Fridays! So just use your best judgment until you can talk to the ortho on Monday. Good luck! Jake-2 (DOCBand Grad 9/19/08) Jordan-4.5 > > We are on day two with our new helmet. Guest guest
Hi ! McKenna got her helmet - that's great! Luke got his from Cranial Tech on Monday, and we had the same issue. That very first visit, they shaved off part of the front so it didn't push his eyebrow down quite as bad. Then I had to check for redness every three hours (is that what your orthotist is having you do?). Luke was getting pretty red in two spots, so I called and they had me bring him in so they could take a look. This was his third day wearing it. They shaved down those two areas and it's been great ever since. He does still get some redness around the front, just above the eyebrows, but it's more heat related than pressure related (I'm an Occupational Therapist and I have over 10 years of experience making splints, so luckily I felt prepared to deal with all of this and can recognize the difference... ). They told me to go ahead and use cortisone cream (1% or less - I'm using Aveeno) on the reddened areas, and it really helps. Give the orthotist a call if you haven't already - it's usually a pretty quick fix from what I've heard and experienced. Good luck!!!!
