Anyone try a Chiropractor for Torticollis?

Hi, I've been on a couple times. My daughter Maggie (part of a

boy/girl twin set) has torticollis and plagio and brachy. We had two

false starts with a Hanger helmet and the third one was finally a

perfect fit. I guess that aside from the scan, the people who

manufacture the helmet can also make adjustments and they

over-corrected due to tightness with the first band, so the second one

moved all over the place. The third one was easy to fit and has only

need one adjustment for one red spot and we are at the end of two weeks.

So, I was wondering if anyone had taken their baby to a chiropractor

and good or bad experiences? I would think it would make sense,

especially with cases like Maggie who was badly position in the womb

and probably has spinal misalignment from before birth... But as with

anything for a baby, I'm still a little wary...

I wouldn't do a chiropractor, I would go with PT and possibly baby massage. To me a Chiro would be way too drastic. I feel that physical therapy would be your best choice. And you also said you have had bad luck with helmets. My ortho does not do scans, he actually casted my daughters head, he feels it is more accurate. Best of luck and hopefully I gave you some good info.

She has been in physical therapy for the past 3 months and is much better, but she has a rather extreme case of tort. She is crawling now, but still has a side preference and has a tendency to frog her legs and keep them stiff instead of bent which is affecting her balance when sitting. The chiropractor says it is very gentle and done with slight pressure with his fingers. There is no bone cracking as with adults, just enough pressure to help realign. We'll see, I will update if we decide to do it.

I think the first scan was inaccurate because the sensor moved around. The second time was an adjustment error. I'm actually glad they had scanning, my daughter does not stay still well, she barely lasted the five minutes for the scan, I can't imagine the state she'd have been in if we had to cast her head. It was a series of bad luck, but it all ended up working out.

Maggie - With the tort I'd caution you to be very careful. Make sure you have had x-rays, and even a CT or MRI if needed before you see a chiro.

My dd has tort - and while it is VERY rare... my dd's tort is from spinal cord anomalies. Several times we discussed seeing a chiro - but we didn't and I am so glad!!! You want to make sure there is nothing abnormal going on other than normal CMT so furthur damage is not done.
