Guest guest
My son Ethan has been in his STARband for 12 weeks now. Yesterday, he was sitting up and playing with his toys - he tried to get onto his hands and knee's but instead, he face planted the floor. He had is helmet on, but the thump was very loud. This afternoon when I took his helmet off for PT (he has Tort as well), I noticed a very dark red spot on his forehead. When I pressed on it, it stayed red - and after an hour it was still there. I examined it closer, and its a huge bump. Im not sure what to do - and have opted to leave the helmet off for the night... is this ok? I dont want it to swell up under the band but have never experienced this before. Any input? Thanks so much! Guest guest
Hi Karith- My son had his band off for his one-hour break one night when he decided to walk into the corner of a dresser. He got a huge welt on his forehead, and just a little bit of broken skin (it was probably the sharpest corner in the house, so of course he found it). I left the band off that night and called our therapist at CT in the morning and he said it was up to me, but that it wouldn't hurt to keep the band on, it actually helps with the swelling (kind of like you would wrap or tape any other kind of injury). But then I told him there was a little bit of broken skin and he said to leave it off so it wouldn't upset that any more than it was. That's the advice I got, but I would suggest calling the ortho in the morning and see what they say, they may handle it differently. My guess is, as long as there's no broken skin, it'll be fine to put it back on him tomorrow. But please let us know what the ortho tells you. Guest guest
I would also leave the band off. if there is a bump you don't want to make it more painful with pressure from the band. Put it back when the swelling is gone. -christine sydney 2.5 yrs starband grad > > My son Ethan has been in his STARband for 12 weeks now.
