Carole, I had to quit smoking before surgery also, and let me tell ya, it was

NOT easy at all! I went back and forth from February until April, and finally

quit 2 weeks before surgery. I did not take any medication or anything, but

found if I had something hand-to-mouth it really helped. I used blow pops,

tootsie pops, hard candies, straws, pens, toothpicks, etc... Anything I could

get my hands on. Even though I quit so late before surgery I know it helped

my overall health during recovery. Unfortunately I started smoking again a

few weeks after surgery. Hopefully you will be able to kick this nasty habit

forever. I know it can be done! You can do it.....Good luck!

I've been quit for 16 months now, long before I had my surgery.

Definitely one of the hardest things I've ever done. I was successful

this time because I used a 3 pronged approach - Zyban, the patches

(according to studies the highest success rates use both of these)

and QuitNet.com a support site. It's hard but you can do it!

I don't know is they do this but there is a blood test that will show

up if you smoke. THe insurance companies use it for their physicals,

so many people lie about whether they smoke or not. And your life

insurance premium is way higher if you smoke.
