Guest guest
Hi - I'm sorry to hear your daughter is having such a hard time taking to her helmet. It is true, that a lot of babies adjust rather quickly to wearing the band, but there are definitely quite a few that take more time, so please don't feel like your daughter is the only one. I would just encourage you to stick with it. Even in the instances where babies have taken longer to adjust than others, they DO adjust eventually, it will just take some time. As long as there are no severe red spots that don't disappear within an hour after removing the helmet, she should not be in any pain, so it's just a matter of getting used to it on her head. Best of luck, I really hope it gets easier. Please keep us posted. Jake-2 (DOCBand Grad 9/19/08) Jordan-4.5 > > My daughter Elaine got her helmet yesterday and it was not the best > experience. Guest guest
Oh we're not stoping or anything. I just didn't expect such an adverse reaction from her. It makes the whole thing worse on me seeing her hate it like that. I'm sure it will pass in time, but it's going to be a long week for us. I'll need all the good vibes I can get. Guest guest
Hi , I went through the same thing with my son. He was 10 months old when he got his Starband on. At first he was ok with it, but after a day or so he would pull it off his head (he is VERY strong). We even had to have it tighten b/c he kept taking off in the middle of the night. I'm happy to tell you that he has had now for 6 weeks and he is doing fine with it. I think with the older kids it's harder. He also does PT for his torticollis, and his poor therapist has to wrestle him the whole time we are there. Some kids are just strong willed, and don't adjust easily. Ever once and awhile if he gets sweaty he will pull it off, but he's doing great now. Hang in there it will get better! Guest guest
Sorry you're having a difficult time. The first week is rough. My daughter was aggravated by the on/off process for the first few days. Once the helmet was on and secure she didn't mind, but every hour (on off, on off) was tedious. We're almost into week 3 and she's doing great. We can already see an improvement. Sending GOOD vibes your way! > > My daughter Elaine got her helmet yesterday and it was not the best > experience. Guest guest
One thing I did think of is when/how do you put the helmet on your daughter? It works much better for us if our daughter is in her bumbo or bouncy chair. She is distracted by toys and we have free access to her little head. > > My daughter Elaine got her helmet yesterday and it was not the best > experience. She hates it with a passion. Guest guest
I'll tell you the truth, my son never really liked the helmet. He always complained when it came on and off - even in month 4. He took a full 2 weeks to " break in " - screaming fits, no sleep, refusal to pick his head up (he was about 5 months when he got it). My son also had acid reflux/colic. I think he had a cranky disposition anyway, and the helmet just made it worse. Anyway, after the helmet was off, he was a new kid. Slept through the night and started getting around! I don't want to say it doesn't get better and I have heard of hardly anyone who had such a hard time adjusting. My doctor said my son was the only one he had heard of that didn't adjust in a couple of days, especially since he didn't have any sores or anything. > > My daughter Elaine got her helmet yesterday and it was not the best > experience. Guest guest
Hi, sorry to hear you're having such a hard time. I'm a little surprised given she's so young. My daughter was 5 mo old and did well except for sleeping. Make sure she's not getting red marks since one possibilty is that is doesn't fit well. Or she may just not like it :-( She'll probably adjust, but keep us posted. I think distracting her is the key. Also you can go a little slower with the break in period if that helps. -christine sydney 2.5 yrs starband grad > > My daughter Elaine got her helmet yesterday and it was not the best > experience.
