Guest guest
Has anyone successfully appealed to United and gotten coverage for a helmet? I used the letters posted on this site to help me write the appeal and it still was denied. I don't get it. The helmet is clearly durable medical equipment (DME) and according to the policy DME is covered! I feel so helpless. My little guy is 6 months old and I know the longer we wait to get a helmet the longer he'll have to wear it. I'd love to hear words of encouragement! thanks for reading my venting!! Guest guest
I have been in your position. Get the band as soon as you can, we qualified for care credit, a credit card for medical expenses with no interest for two years, maybe family will help out too. Your ins. co. will screw you around for up to a year. they are heartless they don't give a crap if your child will be deformed or not. This is a pretty new thing for the medical community and Ins. community and neither of them take it very seriously . I am sure 10 years down the line the protocol for treatment will be much smoother because of pioneers like the parents on this message group. The very best thing you can do for your little boy at this point is just say let's go for it and hope you get reimbursed down the road. It sucks I know. I paid 3600 for mine, my grandparents gave me 500.00 so that helped! There will always be more time to write letters, but the same can't be said for correcting the skull. And when it comes down to it you may not get the same amount of correction if you start later, no matter how long it is worn. The younger, the better. Those little bones get harder everyday. From: allymonkey <alwpharmd@...>Subject: definity/united healthcare preauthorization appeal denial- help!Plagiocephaly Date: Monday, October 6, 2008, 3:50 PM Has anyone successfully appealed to United and gotten coverage for a helmet?
