Guest guest
I have been doing a lot of research on Plagio, my only child has it. Hers was caused by torticollis, you may want to research that, lack of room in the womb or lack of amniotic fluid can both be causes. You may want to check into that. Don't worry, this is not our fault!!! I am new to this, but have been researching like crazy. Take care and hope to hear from you soon. Candy > > OMG! > Could this really be happening. Guest guest
Hi there- I have heard of siblings who both had plagio, typically due to the size/shape of the mom's uterus. But it sounds like Cash might have brachy, if it's flat in the back and not the sides. Is it dramatically flat, or just subtly flat? I think subtle flatness is almost normal these days. My daughter (first born) did have a small flat/bald spot when she was a baby, but it never developed into anything. But with my son, his size and constriction in utero, and the tort he developed from it, all cause his plagio, and it was VERY evident by the time he was 2 months old. I think if it's only at a mild level now, and you're catching it now, aggressive repo should help. At the very least you have 2 months to work on it and then maybe reassess then. I really hope you won't need a helmet for him. Best of luck! Jake-23m (tort resolved/rt plagio/DOCBand #2 9 weeks) Jordan-4 > > OMG! > Could this really be happening. Guest guest
Hi Season, According to our ped, most babies heads have some flatness at 2 mo. If you keep on top of it you can still avoid a real problem. you want to try and vary his sleeping position as much as possible, staying away from the flat area. So you could try to get him to sleep on either side of his head and stay off the back. Some tricks are to alternate which end of the crib his head is at, and same for changing table etc, to encourage him to look both ways. If he is getting flat across the back (brachy) the is often extra height or width - so that is something to watch for. You can take photos every two weeks and it will help you to see if it is getting better or worse. It is not uncommon for a 2nd baby to have plagio too, but hopefully you can take corrective action early. Let us know how Cash is doing. -christine sydney 2.5 yrs starband grad > > OMG! > Could this really be happening. I had our second baby boy June 1st, > 08. I wish I knew about this prior to her diagnosis of Plagio, but I heard a lot of good things about it. My daughter wore the helmet for four months and had an 80% change in the roundness of her head from Dr. Stelnicki. We live in the South Florida area-he works out of the Joe Dimaggio Childrens Hospital in Hollywood. His website for the sleep positioner is: http://www.nightform.com/ Maybe this will help you-Take care, Brielle's mom (Lori)
Guest guest
Hopefully you are just seeing normal flatness and things will even out soon. It's wonderful that you have already been through this so that you know what to look for! So many parents miss even severe plagio/brachy altogether because of lack of knowledge about it. On the sibling note, my ortho said that she suspects there may be some genetic component to plagio just based on her experience. So it's possible that our babies may actually have some predisposition to getting it. However, since so much of it is based on positioning, at worst it would have to be a combo of genetics and positioning. I wonder if you and Cash's ped would be open to tummy sleeping for him? I know it's not done anymore, but maybe in this type of circumstance? > > OMG! > Could this really be happening. I had our second baby boy June 1st, > 08. Guest guest
Thanks so much to everyone who commented. I have visited with our Pediatrician for Cash's 2 month appointment. He says the flatness is mild and slightly flattened on the back left. He wants us to continue tummy time & repositioning. Our doctor was against the idea of tummy sleeping. At Cash's 4 month appt. we will re evaluate the flatness and decide if we need to see a specialist. I hope and pray that this is not genetic and it's just normal 2 month old flattening. We have ordered the Nightform sleeping positioner from nightform.com. Hopefully it will help. Thanks so much for the tip. You all are so wonderful. If anyone has any other advise please let us know. Guest guest
It's so coincidental...I was just at our pediatrician this morning...and my second baby is slightly flat and he has so much tummy time and a tummy sleeper(since 3 months old)...since I wanted to prevent it since I experienced it with my first. So, I do think it is genetic...I was talking to the pediatrician about it. I also found out he has tort...which my first did not have...so I am new to that...and now working on getting him lined up with a physical therapist. It's so hard to go through it again...Good Luck...the good news is that it is early. Best of luck!!! > > > > > > OMG! > > > Could this really be happening.
