Guest guest
Hi Kristy- I'm a little confused, don't they use the StarScanner? I thought he had already been scanned, because you were disappointed that there wasn't greater improvement since the last scan, correct? If so, they should have been able to make the helmet from the scan and there would be no casting. I've never heard of places that use a scanner making the helmet from a casting. But maybe I've misunderstood your situation there. For some reason, I thought you were dealing with the scanner. In any case, if he is being casted tomorrow, I can't imagine it would take 2 hours. The casting process itself takes less than 15 minutes to do, then you wash him up and you're on your way, so I would think an hour, max. From there, it would take 1-2 weeks to get the helmet made and sent back to your ortho. Am I wrong about you getting the StarBand from Orthomerica? There is a place called Orthotic & Prosthetic Associates in The Woodlands, TX, and they do the DOCBand made by Cranial Tech (they're a licenced facility). But I'm almost certain from our chat nights I remember you saying you were getting the StarBand. I can't remember off the top of my head where Orthomerica headquarters is, but your ortho would ship the cast of your son's head to headquarters and they will manufacture the band there. Hope that helps! Guest guest
I am the one who is confused....he is getting his helmet today. I just read some good old misinformation from the internet. Sorry about that. This is all so new to me. But I called and they said he would be getting it tomorrow. Thanks for responding > > > > I have been telling people that he is getting it tomorrow- but > then I > > looked at the site- they are doing the casting tomorrow. Guest guest
Ok, that makes more sense. I didn't even read your subject line until just now, or else I would have been able to know you were definitely getting the StarBand. Sorry about that. So the appointment will probably be 2 hours because they will want to put it on, then leave it on for a little bit (not sure about your ortho specifically, but ours left it on for about 15 minutes) and then check for any red marks and make adjustments as necessary. I'm sure they'll want to make sure everything is as good as it can be before you leave, so they allow for a 2 hour appointment. Good luck!
