Guest guest
Hello All, My son received his Hanger Cranial Band from Hanger Orthotics in Mesa, Arizona last Tuesday, July 2nd. He did very well with it the first week and then all of sudden, over the last 48 hours, he has developed some awful looking bright red spots on his head. The spots almost look like abrasions or burns. They don't appear to bother him. I can touch them and wash his head and hair without him caring. In an effort to keep the spots from becoming any more irritated than they already are, I have placed a single place of tissue/toilet paper in between the spots and his cranial band as directed by his physician. I took him to see his orthotist this morning and he said that it's an allergic reaction to the foam lining in his helmet. An allergic reaction?!?!? I wasn't aware that you could be allergic to foam. Has anyone else had this problem???? If so, what did you do about it? My orthotist said that we would have to order a new helmet (for another $2000.00!!!!!!!!) with a hypo-allergenic foam lining in order to keep my son's head from getting irritated. I just want to make sure that a new helmet with a hypo-allergenic foam lining will soslve the problem before we spend another $2000.00. Signed, A VERY concerned and frustrated mother
Guest guest
Hi there- I'm sorry to hear about the allergy. I have heard of it happening before but it was with the StarBand. I also knew there was a hypoallergenic foam that can be ordered in the place of the regular, but again, it was with the StarBand. I don't think I realized Hanger had the same options, though I think it's great. I must say, I think it stinks that they're making you pay for the second band. I can't remember that being an issue with the other allergies I heard of. You didn't know he would have a reaction to the foam so there was know way for you to know to order the hypoallergenic kind in the first place. I really don't think they should charge you for it. Hopefully someone else who has been through the exact same thing can verify that. Even if you do have to spend the money, I think it would be worth it. It's obvious he hasn't been bothered by the helmet itself, so hopefully the new foam would take care of the skin issues and you'll be on your way. One other thing, I would make sure that they rescan him for the second band. I would worry that the new one wouldn't fit properly if they just made it from the old scan. Good luck and please keep us posted. Guest guest
They can remake the band with a hypoallergenic liner and this usually helps. I would insist they do this at their expense since they didn't offer you this option in the first place. I'm pretty sure it is usually free if they need to do it. If they don't agree call Hanger corporate and talk to them. -christine sydney 2.5 yrs starband grad > > Hello All, > > My son received his Hanger Cranial Band from Hanger Orthotics in > Mesa, Arizona last Tuesday, July 2nd.
