This post from another list I am on asks for prayer for a fellow DSer. I

wanted to get it to as many praying or light sending well wishers as soon as

I could, so I am just posting it all here and I hope won't mind (I

know I shouldn't do that, but in this case, I think she would be happy for

more help).

If you believe in prayer, maybe you will want to pray for this patient.

Subject: Life, death, choices and prayers

I know I have a habit of being harsh, to the point, and some of you don't

like me. But I am writing for someone else. Her name is Van Brussel.

She is scheduled to have surgery tomorrow morning.

has fought her insurance company for two years. She went through two

companies and a total of five appeals. She started working with me on

legislation back in April. She has done newspaper and radio interviews and

spoken to television stations. Actually a local station in Youngstown is

supposed to follow her through surgery tomorrow. Walter Lindstrom fought for

her and finally won. But it may be too late. has been wheelchair

dependent and on total oxygen for a while. She went on oxygen last December

I believe. She is on almost 40 medications. She is 1 day from having this

surgery that she desperately wants and needs

But the anesthesiologist has told her he won't put her under. Because the

risk is great she may die. Without surgery, will die in six months.

She is aware of the risk -- well aware of the risk of death -- and told me

that she would rather die tomorrow than six months from now> She wants the

chance at surgery. Surgery is the only thing that can save her life but

having surgery may kill her. She wants the chance though. So I am asking for

your prayers. I am asking that you pray that she gets to have the surgery.

yes there is a risk of death for it but it is her ONLY chance at life. Her

chance of dying during surgery is elevated but she wants the chance to live

that only this surgery can give her. Dr. Hess may have convinced the

anesthesiologist to do it but would love your prayers. And I would

love them too. is a dear friend of mine. I want her to live but I

also want her to have this surgery and live a long healthy life. Not die

because her insurance company put her off for two years. See if she would

have had this surgery last year this risk wouldn't be here. So her insurance

company is killing her and may have already done so. Sorry if this makes no

sense. I am pissed and scared. I want you to pray if you pray or think good

thoughts if you do that that gets to have surgery tomorrow and that

she survives. Those two things mean the world to her and to me and to others

who know and love her. So please pray for tomorrow. Please!
