Guest guest
Hi Dean- It is not too late. My son was not banded until he was 17 months old and we have seen tremendous improvement in his forehead bulge and flat spot. He just turned 2 yesterday, and even with wearing 2 bands for nearly 8 months, his head is still not perfect, so I really don't know where these doctors think that 2 is the magic age for natural correction. I am thrilled with his results though considering the age at which we started, the mild flat spot that he still has is completely unnoticeable unless his hair is really slicked down. I don't know what helmet options you have available to you in Sydney, but if your gut is telling you to do something, I would do whatever you could to get him one. Best of luck to you. Please keep us posted. Guest guest
Thank you for the enchouraging posts. Can anyone recommend a course of action as I am afraid I will continue to hit a brick wall with doctors. Guest guest
I'm not sure how things work in Australia, do you need a prescription from a doctor for a helmet like we do in the States? It may help to go to an orthotist and get their assessment, sometimes getting measurements and the input from an ortho can help persuade a doctor to write a script. Or you could just continue to seek opinions from other doctors and hope one will write it. I know specialists around here can take a while to get an appointment, but family doctors can be quicker. I took my son to another ped for a second opinion and he was willing to write the script. Good luck, please keep us posted.
