Guest guest
Go with the DOC band as soon as you can, repositioning won't improve the shape only keep it from getting worse. Plus you have to build in the time for your first appt. and the time it takes the design team in Phoenix Arizona to make the band and send it to wherever you are. So if you call CT in the morning you will still have to wait about three or four weeks before you can start. ,Mom to Elijah DOC band grad 8/11/08From: sbmcd15 <sbmcd15@...>Subject: doc band or wait?Plagiocephaly Date: Thursday, September 18, 2008, 1:19 PM I am struggling with the decision to wait one more month to see if my daughter's head will improve on its own or to get the band. During the past month of aggressive repositioning it has improved a little, but my daughter is 5 and a half months so I don't want to waste time if she will have to get the band any way. I feel so guilty because my daughter is such a good baby and don't want her to be uncomfortable or bothered by wearing a helmet all of the time- has anyone seen improvement without the band? Has your child adapted to the band easily?
Guest guest
we banded our son with the doc band at 4 1/2 months and due to his young age he was done in 8 weeks. I was so happy we banded. I felt like waiting and repo might help a little but I wanted alot of assistance and the band has provided us with that. We went from 15 mm off to under 2 and he had eye and ear assymery and a forehead bossing issue that are so much better it makes me cry to think of where we would be without the band. He is now 141/2 months and doing great. The band was one of the best decisions I ever made. Go for it, go with your gut. The money spent is well worth it considering. Good luck and if you band soon you can hit the winter months where she will be inside alot and when outside she can wear a large hat to cover the band. It worked for us. Some people never knew our baby had the band under his snow hat. If you get quick correction you can be done before the spring and summer when it will be warmer and I have heard some complaints due to sweating. Winter is when we banded. October 31st to December 31st. We went to Cranial Tech in Paramus NJ and saw orthotist Pervi Patel. She was amazing. Guest guest
Hi there I am a mom for a 7.5 month baby and we got him his DOC band 2 weeks back. In our case, we noticed his plagio when he was 2 months old. Our PED asked us to do aggressive re-positioning. I had no clue what it was all about. I was working full time at that time and being a first time mom, I was confused. We used to carry my son all the time and tried to reposition his head to our best knowledge. But he is a such sweet heart . He started sleeping through nights from his second month itself. At his 4 month wellness check up, we were very concerned about his really flat head.( he had 100.6% cephalic ratio which is very severe , normal is somewhere around 83 % I think). PED asked us to see a neuro surgeon. Neuro surgeon asked us to wait and see for another month , meanwhile repositiong the baby's head. We did wait for 7 more weeks and the neuro surgeon says its okay to have flat head and did not give us a prescription for band. Our PED also did not respond to my concerns. Both of them were very conservative about helmets/bands and they thought I was over reacting over a small issue . Infact my PED told me that I was over reacting and my Neuro surgeon was pretty adamant with his decision. I changed my PED, got prescription for Doc band, had evaluation at CT and waited for band for 15 days . Finally my son got his band on Sep 5th. One thing that really depressed us is the clinician at Cranial Technolgies told us that she expects only 50 % correction. Had we took the baby to CT and got him banded around 4 months or atleast 5 months, we would have got maximum correction and he would have already graduated from the band. So what I would ask you to do is , set up an appointment for evaluation with Cranial technolgies , get a prescription for band and go ahead with band (dont wait for your insurance claim to get approved). Guest guest
If you think you may band in a month then why wait the additional time. I would band sooner then later. You'll get the results sooner. I know it's a difficult decision to make. From my experience my daughter was uncomfortable for a moment. She's been in the DOC Band for 10 weeks and loves it now. She tries to put it back on right away when I take it off for her bath time. It's really not bad at all. The decision is ultimately up to you but if you are avoiding it because you don't want your daughter to be uncomfortable then I just want to let you know the babies adjust really well. Best of luck. Guest guest
We were in the same boat as you a little over 3 months ago. My son was five months old and the happiest baby I had ever seen and we were afraid making him wear the band would change that. He never skipped a beat! We couldn't get the right fit for about the 1st 2 weeks and the only way we knew was when we took it off and found red spots, he never lead on that it bothered him. We are now on our 14th week and ready to graduate in about 2 more weeks and he is still has happy as he was before. He has made it through all his milestones with the helmet (rolling over, sitting up, and crawling). We are so happy that we did this for our son, I think that is harder on us parents than it is on the babies (they are so resilient).
