Guest guest
Welcome Peggy- The first thing you need to focus on is that everything will be all right! We're all here to help in anyway we can. I know I was as stressed and nervous as you when I first posted here. This board has been a great support to me over the last 7+ months. My son was also banded at 17 months old and has done wonderfully (both in adjusting and results). He is in his second DOCBand from Cranial Tech and we're 2.5 weeks away from graduating (yeah!). Where are you located and what kind of band/helmet will you be getting? Hopefully someone here has been to the same location and can make you feel at ease with the person/company you will be working with. Please keep us posted. Best of luck! Jake-2 on Friday! Guest guest
Hi Peggy, welcome to the group. My daughter wore a starband when she ws younger (5-10 mo). It really isn't bad. However since you're starting later, make sure your helmet provider is very experienced. Growth is slower at that age, and you want to get as much correction as possible. I would recommend cranial tech (www.cranialtech.com) if you can. They don't have locations everywhere, but from what i have read (2 years in this group) they have the most experience with older babies. The experience of the provider is key in getting good results, and with older babies I would say it is even more important since you don't have time to switch providers if you find it isn't working. Babies adjust well to the band, and it can really help quite a bit. Let us know if you have questions. -christine sydney 2.5 yrs starband grad > > Hello, > > My son has Plagiocephaly, his doctors just decided to send him to a > specialist, which he is 17 months old. Guest guest
Hello everyone, Thank you all for the warm welcome. My concern is my son's age, 17 months old. I don't know why the doctors waited this long to send him to a Aesthetic Surgery Specialist, which he refer me to a Surgical Appliances for the treatments for the helmet. I am not sure which helmet he is going to get. The specialist gave me a pamplet about plagiocephaly. The website is www.cranialsolutions.com I live in Bethlehem, Pa area, not too far from town, Pa. They told me if they can get the helmet on his head before he is 18 months it will work. I am not sure from everything I researched, the guy who is casting my son for the helmet, said most doctors don't believe the treatments works and for me not to believe everything I read online. I change my son's sleeping postions all the time, I don't know what to use to keep him from sleeping on his right side. I asked the specialist if there is anything I can use and he said no. I asked his doctors at each well check up visits about his head which he was 6 months old and they told me it will grow out. They waited this long to send him, knowing you have to wait for appointments, getting refers and not to mention waiting a month for these appointments.. I feel these doctors put my son at risk! I am affraid he is going to end up having the surgery, thats what I keep thinking. I cry everyday worrying about my son's health and what is going to happen. Sorry for going on but this is very upsetting! Thanks, Peggy From: christineashok <christineashok@...>Subject: Re: New, Scared, Worried...Plagiocephaly Date: Wednesday, September 3, 2008, 6:32 AM Hi Peggy, welcome to the group.
