Guest guest
Hi Everyone, My son is 5 months old this week and is getting banded by a local ortho on Monday. It's become quite obvious to my husband and I that his ears are misaligned, one ear is further forward and lower than the other. It also appears that one is slightly larger than the other now, too. We were told not to count on the ears really shifting back to " normal " too much. I'm sure it's more obvious to us than everyone else since we are aware of it and see it all day long, but I'm curious if anybody else was worried about their childs ears, too, and if they saw any correction as the head rounds out. Thanks!
Guest guest
I was most worried about his ears, you can look at joeys before and after in before and after docband, most obvious in the side view. we were told they dont see improvement in the ears by the hanger orthotist but cranial tech said they most certainly do, it is just more difficult b/c it deals with the smaller bones in the skull base. so b/c of that we went with cranial technologies. as you can see from before and after, we saw a lot of change On Wed, Sep 3, 2008 at 7:27 AM, kimschellin <kimschellin@...> wrote: Hi Everyone,My son is 5 months old this week and is getting banded by a local ortho on Monday. Guest guest
Hello. My Daughter wore a Hanger Band for 11 weeks and she got great correction to her ear asymm. Her ears were initially about 7mm off. At the end of treatment, her ears were only off by 1.5mm. So, you can get correction to the ears. Facial and ear asymm are often last to correct. Keep us updated. Jen > > Hi Everyone, > My son is 5 months old this week and is getting banded by a local ortho > on Monday. Guest guest
We were told not to count on ears shifting back either but I can tell a difference. I think now that my son's tort is resolved and the head rounded out that everything just kind of fell into place. Guest guest
I was also told not to put all my focus on my sons ears & the correction of them as there was much more to work on & they are usually last to correct. My son has been in his starband now for about 9 months & there has been terrific correction not perfect but amazingly better. I was told that when he is older I amy want to think about corrective surgery to make his ears the same as he has two diffrent ears. I found myself really focused on looking at peoples ears & see that not all are the same or perfect for many people. Its very hard not to focus on them for me but its gotten easier & really not many notice this about him but me & my dh. I actually tried on a hat with the part that covers the ears the other day & was happy that both ears were covered, as when he was a baby I could not use that type at all. good luck with your jorney. > > Hi Everyone, > My son is 5 months old this week and is getting banded by a local ortho > on Monday. Guest guest
My daughter had mild plagio and tort. We did the stretching exercises for tort in the beginning. We were also told that the helmet wouldn't correct the ear alignment, but we saw improvement. Whether that was from the helmet or her muscles stretching I don't know. Here's a post on her site where I have a before and mid-progress picture. http://www.kalinadoyle.com/?m=200806 Kim > > Hi Everyone, > My son is 5 months old this week and is getting banded by a local ortho > on Monday. Guest guest
We have a hanger band and were told that the ear misalignment would indeed correct with the band; in fact that was our primary reason for going forward with the band. Our daughter's assymmetry was about 9 mm and is now down to 5mm after 2 months. We are hopeful for more improvement in coming months - but my husband and I are pleased that we already notice the change. Good luck and keep everyone posted on the progress! kristine (mom to ava; 2 mos in hanger band)
Guest guest
Thanks everyone for all the feedback on ear alignment. We live in St. Louis and Precision Prosthetics and Orthotics will be making the helmet (out of St. 's Hospital / Child Development Center). Anybody have any experience with them? I need to ask them more questions at our casting appt. on Monday... this is just all so new to us and I wasn't even sure what to ask at our first visit. > > We have a hanger band and were told that the ear misalignment would > indeed correct with the band; in fact that was our primary reason for > going forward with the band.
