Guest guest
My son, , is almost 11 months old and has been in his Hanger band for 5.5 weeks. Initially, they told us he need to return for follow-up visits at 2-3 intervals. We have been in the office once a week ever since we got the helmet due to new red spots developing. Two of the times an actual sore developed that quickly healed. They adjust it and then 3-4 days later (usually on a Friday night or over the weekend) he develops a red spot. The red spots have been in different areas every time and after the adjustment, things seem to be going well. What I am wondering is, those of you that go in at 2 week or whatever intervals, are there red spots, or how else is the clinician supposed to know where to shave the foam. I am starting to worry that I have a bad helmet, but then I keep thinking that if he is getting red spots, then maybe it is a sign that his head is growing (hopefully in the right direction) and they just need to make more room. Thanks, Mom to , 11 months, Hanger band 5.5 weeks
Guest guest
I can't speak for Hanger specifically, but my son wears a DOCBand and only goes in every 3 weeks for adjustments (he was 17 months at the start of treatment, so they are more spaced out). He has never had a red spot since the first week of treatment and we've never had to go in early for an adjustment. As far as his band is concerned, they are only shaving the foam in the areas of the flat spots (the back right and front left forehead area). The prominent/bossed areas (the back left and front right forehead) have never been scraped out at all. Those are the areas of the head that need to be held in place so they don't grow further into an asymmetrical shape. I honestly don't know how to treat cronic red spots, especially when they keep happening in different spots, but I would think that shaving too much away from the bossed/prominent areas would be defeating the purpose of the band. Can you tell how yours is being adjusted? Is there a lot of scraping inside? Guest guest
My baby wears a DOC band. Last week he got a red spot on his head and' the helmet was scrapd on that area ,this week was his forehead and today was his 2nd week appointment they also scraped that area . His head looks a lot better, we are very happy with the results so far. I also was under the impression that the reason of the red spots was because the head was growing. I am going to ask . <nwilkens2275@...> wrote: I can't speak for Hanger specifically, but my son wears a DOCBand and only goes in every 3 weeks for adjustments (he was 17 months at the start of treatment, so they are more spaced out). Guest guest
They scrape out the area where the red spot is occurring. Not too much, though. Everything seems to be going well, until a few days later, a new red spot appears. The red area I found last night is exactly where the sore was foung last week, which tells me that the orthotist did not shave enough out (he was a new guy that I have never met before that I think they had to use since I am always calling first thing Monday morning demanding that they squeeze me in that day since has usually been out of his helmet at least some amount of time over the weekend). They have never shaved any out where his flat spot is (he has brachy) which I guess I don't understand why they would have to if the helmet was originally made with large amount of open space to accomodate ' ideal growth. Maybe if his growth in the back exceeded their expectations?? Just to confirm, DOC shaves out every three weeks where his flat spots are by going by his measurements, or how do they know any needs to be shaved if there are no reds spots?
