Stapled anistomosis and leaks

I remember someone telling me way back when that Dr. Gagner had some

leaks a while back because there was a malfunction with the staples.

During my surgery the stapler malfunctioned as well. The stapler fires

and makes a hole and then puts in the staple. Well the stapler only

fired the hole, then it would not insert the staple, so Gagner had to

sew me by hand (which he did laparascopically). That day he made

everyone in the OR stop using staplers and started an investigation.

Apparatly they recalled like 60,000 staplers.

I had heard Rabkin uses staples, so I want to be sure I know what's going

on here. Can you clear up what this means and where I could read welker's

opinion?
