Guest guest
Of course we get our band on a friday. Bad idea! Haha. Actually is taking the band like a champ- not a single complaint! We put some superman stickers on it... super cute. I feel like we have a great fit- no deep long lasting red marks at removal, no movement of band, no digging in of side burns etc. Anyways, I have a few questions. We have a STARband if that matters... 1) Can we lay our son on the floor on his back? Im afraid it will hurt the back of his head, but my husband says otherwise. doesnt seem to mind. We are working on rolling over as he has only dont it a handful of times from back to belly because we avoided placing him on his back to play for so long. Im afraid that the helmet with put a crick in his neck. Any experience with this?? 2) Do you use the foam wedge with the band for sleeping? Today is our first time napping or sleeping in the band. I feel like the foam wedge we used to keep pressure off the head before will be useful in keeping him comfortable. Any experience or advice with this?? 3) I feel like the helmet has to be " just right " and its hard to get it perfectly on a moving target. Im serious it takes me like 4 tries for me to feel like its on there " right " . He told us what to look for (ear in the middle of the cut outs, forehead piece just above brow) but it seems to take a few tried. Does this get easier with practice or is it always so touchy?? Well, thats all I can think of for now. Thanks in advance!
Guest guest
Another question- This is our first day of naps and sleeping. Its a complete failure. wont let us put him down to sleep, but will sleep in our arm with much trouble. My question is about fit. It appears then when his head/helmet is resting on a surface it moves to create a gap on the " up " side. For example when I cradle him in my left arm with the helmet resting on my are, I can see a space on left side (up side) of the helmet between his head and the helmet. This is also causing the " down " side to have a pressure point. This cannot be normal, am I correct in thinking it is too loose or something? We were told not to " pull it tight " but I feel like this movement is causing our son discomfort while resting... because he is perfectly content while his head is not resting on anything. Any suggestions? Of course it is Sunday and we cannot reach the orthoticist until tomorrow AM. We have had no naps in the band today because we have had no naps at all! Im worried about tonight. Should we do our best but let him rest tonight and call in the morning for a check up? Now Im starting to doubt our decision. Please help! Guest guest
Hi there- Glad to hear is taking to the band okay (at least while awake!). It's fine to lay him on his back and there's no need to use the sleep wedge anymore. The band will protect his head from getting any worse. Getting it on right is tricky at first, but it should get easier as you get used to it. I know some moms that say they put it on and take it off when the baby is constrained in some way, in the high chair, exersaucer, etc. I thought it was easiest to line up the ear hole opposite the velcro opening, it gives you one area to aim for, and the other areas usually fall into place. As for sleeping, some moms use memory foam on the mattress, which should help him be more comfortable with his band on, it won't be resting on such a hard surface. I'm not sure about the fit issue for sure, we don't have a STARBand, but it can be loose in the beginning, and should become more snug as he grows into it. I hope that helps some. Please keep us posted on his adjustment. Good luck! Jake-2 (tort resolved/rt plagio/DOCBand #2 5 more days!!!) Jordan-4.5 > > Of course we get our band on a friday. Bad idea! Haha. Guest guest
Thanks for your response. How long until your baby was able to sleep in his band? Still no luck with getting to sleep. He will totally melt to sleep in our arms but screams when we lay him down (which is completely unlike him!). Its his this hurts scream and Im at my wits end. Im questioning why we are doing this to our boy. I know I need to call them tomorrow, but what to do tonight? We cant cradle him all night and we are both tearful and stressed out. Im so confused again.
Guest guest
Fortunately, my son slept fine the very first night, but he was much older and was able to find a comfy position on his own without a problem. I think some of the younger babies struggle because they aren't as mobile and just can't get comfortable. But I can tell you that the babies DO adjust eventually, some just take longer than others. This is your first day at napping/sleeping with it, so just hang in there. I would probably leave it off tonight just so you can all get some rest and try again tomorrow, maybe get the memory foam to help. He doesn't have any red spots that don't fade within an hour, right? If it seems that the band is fitting find (not rubbing or pressing anywhere it shouldn't), it should just be a sleep issue and will hopefully work itself out in a few days. I hope that some other moms who struggled with sleep can offer you some advice as well. In the meantime, hang in there, the first week or two are usually the toughest and pretty soon you'll be looking back on this time and you'll be amazed at how far you've come. Good luck!
