Helmet Causing Son to be Daredevil?

My son, Gavin, is 8 months old and he is entering the 12th week of

wearing the helmet. We have about 3 more weeks to go and then the

weaning process. I was just wondering if anyone else has the same

issue that we are facing--he's so used to being in the helmet and if

he hits his head in the helmet, it naturally doesn't hurt (crawling,

climbing on things, trying to walk from sofa to table, etc). When the

helmet is not on his head for the hour a day break, he is starting to

realize that his little stunts can cause pain (hits head on floor

while trying to crawl, falls over when trying to pull self up and

bumps head, etc). Mind you, I am right there with him while he is

exploring the daredevil inside himself, but he is quick!!

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this during the times the

helmet is removed....Gavin will bump his head, think for a minute and

get this look on his face that says, " hey, this didn't hurt when my

helmet is on " .

Thanks!

yes, i know exactly what you're experiencing! my almost 8 month old has only been wearing her starband for 3 weeks and she's already a little daredevil! she's learned to crawl, pull to a stand, and start to cruise all in the last 3 weeks. She always bumps her head when not wearing it and you can tell that she is surprised by the unpleasant effect.

my son learned to walk and took some nasty knocks in his helmet, including rolling down our stairs. he learned pretty quick when it came off except he still had trouble with " sometimes " things like walking under the dr table or crawling under the coffee table or the pew at church b/c sometimes he would clear it and sometimes he would hit his head so he had trouble remember that one would hurt

We are experiencing the same thing with our son Owen who is 10 months

old and has been in his starband for 10 weeks now. I'll have to

admit that it has been very helpful in preventing him from hurting

himself now that he is pulling up, cruising the furniture, and

clmbing onto/into everything. During his hour off I have to watch

him like a hawk, and I have to admit he has banged his head a couple

times. I worry that once he is done with the band he won't know how

to " be careful " because he is so used to the helmet protecting his

head.

My 7 1/2 month old Son, 9 weeks in his band, is doing the same thing. He will be sitting there playing but if he wants to go somewhere or get something he just falls backwards on his head and rolls over and takes off. So when he is not wearing it he does that and gets this weird look on his face like "why'd it hurt this time?" I don't think he realizes that when his helmet is off it is going to hurt his little noggin when he does that. He also loves looking in the mirror and he gets really close to it and always bumps his head (helmet) against it and laughs. We are going to have to be very careful once he no longer has to wear his helmet!
