Hi all.

I am new to this group and wondered if there was anyone else out there

from New Zealand.

My son is 17 weeks old, he had a flat spot on the right side of his head

(well more like a diamond shaped ridge with a flat spot in the middle

of it) at birth and preferred to hold his head to the left from day 1.

My midwife said it was moulding from a 'difficult vaginal birth' and it

would round out with time.

Then he started to get a flat spot(on his left side)opposite the

diamond. My GP said it would correct itself with time. just give him

lots of tummy time and change the position of his head.

At four weeks we started using a safety sleep (NZ product for

positioning babies during sleep) and rolled up towels behind him. It

doesnt work as he wriggles his way back onto his back and turns his

head back.

At six weeks I saw a paediatrician who said it would correct itself

with time and not to worry about it. He felt the diamond/suture ridges

and said it is common for babies to have overlapping skull plates from

birth and it will sort itself with time.

At 11 weeks the GP said not to worry.... you guessed it! it will sort

itself with time!

Well his left ear has moved forward and down, his left cheek looks

bigger than the right, his right eye looks 'different', the back of his

head is getting flatter and higher, the left side of his head is SOOOO

flat, the right side by his ear is starting to get flat too as we have

only been putting him on that side as he keeps turning back to the left

within minutes of being put to bed. he HATES tummy time and wont lift

his head up, so his nose and forehead get all raw from screaming face-

down. he HATES his boppy-type pillow and wriggles backward out of it

until he is face down again. he puts up with the exersaucer for 15 mins

max. there is still pressure on his head when he is in the front pack!

the skin under the left side of his chin and neck is red and sore

(diagnosed as excema by GP)... the list goes on!

aaaaahhhhh!

what am i supposed to do?

who should i ask to be referred to in NZ?

do we do DOC bands or helmets in NZ?

any advice appreciated :)
