Guest guest
I'm sorry if this has been posted before, but I can't find the info. anywhere. I just read something on another message board where someone claimed that out of 1200 calories taken in, only 30% of those calories are absorbed after the DS. That's only 360 calories! That can't be! Surely our bodies absorb more than 30% of what we eat. Does anybody have any facts on this?
Guest guest
, Hi It depends on your diet...amount of protein, carbs, fat But a general figure of 30-40% of calories NOT ABSORBED is what I absorbed.... What I have heard is that DSers absorb around 30% of fat, 50-60% of protien and 75-85% of carbs. So the calorie count would look like: ..30 X 9 Cals/Gm of Fat + ..55 X 4 Cals/Gm of Protien + ..80 X 4 Cals/Gm of Carb This explains why DSers should avoid carbs. Real Mayo instead of " Fat Free " etc. Most " Fat Free " food replace Fat with Carbs. Guest guest
, Dr Welker said that when we are a year out we should be eating 2500 calories a day and absorbing half of that...... Generally, we absorb about 80% of the protein, 50 % of the complex carbs and 100% of the simple carbs or sugars and only about 30% of the fat. Guest guest
This explains why DSers should avoid carbs>>>>>> I never avoid carbs and my weight has not been affected. While this might be true for the RNYers it generally is not true for the DSers. Its just that after eating protein we dont have alot of room for the carbs however some complex carbs are necessary every day. The brain needs that! Nothing wrong with a baked potato loaded with butter, sour cream and grated cheese!
