Guest guest
Hi All: Firstly, thanks again for all of the advice. My little buddha-boy started his band with Dr. Stelnicki in S. FL over a week ago, and things seem to be running smoothly. We purchased the Britax Marathon (cowmooflage, which is great), and that seems to work well with the helmet. His sleeping issues seem to have resolved now that the house is kept chilly and his crib has a nice foam topper on the mattress (again, thanks for the suggestion!). As I mentioned when introducing him, he is quite large - 23 pounds at 6 months and going strong! We had his first helmet adjustment already, and he does seem to have bulging in the back of his head, definitely an improvement over the flattened area. My concern is that the tech, Ari, who single-handedly runs the banding dept., adjusts the helmet without doing any measurements or scans- is this typical??? When I asked her about it, she reminded me that she had designed it after all.... Unfortunately, I am still out of sorts after an appendectomy and did not want to force the issue- but shouldn't some measurements/ scanning be done? According to her, the scan is done again at the end of treatment- so I am guessing that she jus " eyeballs " her way through the entire course of treatment. For $2650.00, I kind of though that they would actually use the scanning maching at some point, take a more scientific approach to the whole thing??? If this is typical, please let me know (I tend to get too emotional on pain meds as it is). If not, I need to take action quickly, as she is away next week... Thanks for endlessly answering questions and offering support! I don't think that I would sleep without knowing that I have other Moms out there who understand! &
Guest guest
Our son's head has been scanned every time, and then the orthotist adjusts it. He carefully checks the fit right when we sit down, makes notes, does the scan, puts it up on the computer, makes notes, goes to the back office to shave some of the foam, comes back and puts it on and then takes it to shave a little more foam. It takes about 45 minutes minimum. Get the scoop on last night's hottest shows and the live music scene in your area - Check out TourTracker.com! Guest guest
Our ortho only measures the circumfrence of his head. She looks at his head and sees wear it looks snug and makes the adjustment. We do get scanned again before he graduates. I think we get scanned every 4 weeks to check progress. Chrissy Measurements with Starband Hi All:Firstly, thanks again for all of the advice. Guest guest
My son had a STARband and he was scanned every time we went in for an adjustment. However, I think each ortho has their own protocol. I believe that CT which provides the DOCband doesn't do any measurements over the course of treatment and they are able to eyeball where the adjustments need to be made. If you are al all uncomfortable with the adjustment or concerned about the progress made then by all means ask them to do another scan to give you an update.
