Guest guest
Well yesterday was the big day, we got our STARband! Dylan did really great. He wore the band on the drive home and was able to fall asleep in it :-) I was very worried that he would hate it but I don't think he knows it is even there. I noticed at first that he had a little trouble holding his head up, but by the end of the night he was fine. It was harder on my husband and I than him, he just kept playing and chatting up a storm. I know the sweating is suppose to be bad but I could actually see the sweat dripping down his face. I am hoping someeone had the same experience and can tell me it gets better. He was dressed in a tank top romper and still sweating. I am just worried because we are in San Diego and it was 80 degrees yesterday. I know it is only going to get hotter and I want him to be comfortable. We are going to get his hair cut today in hopes that it will help too. Guest guest
I am not so sure about the sweating. My son was banded in NY in the winter and we still had some sweaty hair when we removed the band to bath him. I would call the Starband provider to see if they can recommend something. Perhaps you can take it off a second time during the day and wipe it down and let your sons head get cool again. I am just thinking this may cause a heat rash and in that case you will need to have less than 1 percent cortizone cream to put on the redness. It will help it go down. I hope other warm weather helmet wearers respond and I hope you find a temerature and amount of clothing that works for you. Guest guest
I am glad that Dylan did so well, as I thought that he would. Sorry it was so hard on dad, I can relate. It helps that Dylan has such a good tempermant. I was lucky that Bryce got his helmet over the Memorial day weekend when it was cool. Bryce is now starting to have a problem with the sweating, now that the tempuratures are rising. I say just keep the house cool, we use the A/C and fans whenever it is over 73. I Also I just put Bryce in a diaper...thats all! Ditch the socks for awile and try to limit him time is the carseat. Bryce would be soaked up his back in the carseat and at night..before the helmet. I think he wore a onsie or just a diaper for the first few weeks in the helmet. I know that you can take the helmet off and dry his head. I wiped Bryce with a cool washcloth and used the cool setting on the hairdryer if his hair was still wet. Remember you have 60 minutes a day to play with. I also heard about putting an icepack in the carseat to keep things cool. I have not tried it yet, but its just a thought. You can wipe his face and neck down with the helmet on. Cutting his hair will probaly help too!!! Good luck and Keep us posted. First Day In A Sweaty Helmet Well yesterday was the big day, we got our STARband! Dylan did really great.
