Guest guest
Welcome - In a perfect break in period situation with the DOCBand, you check for red spots every 3 hours with 1 hour off in between for the first 2 days. He will wear it to sleep in the very first night. Then, assuming there are no red spot or adjustment issues, you will move to 23 hours on, 1 hour off on day 3. At that point, there won't be any need to remove the band during the day (unless there is some sort of accident or issue, like the example you gave). My son is not in daycare but is in preschool 3 days a week and the teachers have never had to remove his band for any reason (though the seemed to be willing to do it if necessary), so hopefully you'll be just as lucky. I would try to dress him in clothes and pack extra clothes that button up or can come off over the helmet. That way if he does spit up or have a blow out and they need to change his clothes, they won't have to call you to come take off his band. Again, this is all for the perfect scenario. There might be some red spots or adjustments that you can't always plan for. I have heard of other people who use daycare trying to make the first fitting for a Thursday or Friday and using the extra days of the weekend for the adjustment period, just to make it a little easier for when the baby goes back to daycare on Monday. But I'm not sure that would be possible with your schedule and when the band comes in (it's more important to get the band on and fitted sooner, rather than later, so I wouldn't put it off just for that reason). If I remember correctly, your daycare is not the only one who will not remove the band, I think I've heard that before and I do think it's a liability issue (kind of similar to some not administering medicine, the parents have to do it themselves). Good luck! I hope it all goes smoothly for you! Guest guest
-We are on day 4 with the DOC Band and have had an easy adjustment. I hope that things go smoothly as well. The thought that your daycare provider won't take the helmet off in the case of an emergency seems a bit extreme to me. I think that the people caring for your child and the director should be shown how easy it is to at least take it off if something should happen. Maybe you could agree on certain circumstances when the provider should remove the band if necessary. ( and then call you to put it back on) Though it seems unlikely to happen, the thought of your baby left in the band if he gets sick seems cruel. Maybe come up with a short list of " emergency " situations which would warrant immediate removal of the band. Chances are, they won't ever need to, but you should at least have the peace of mind knowing that they " know " how to do it. -- In Plagiocephaly , " " <nwilkens2275@...> wrote: > > Welcome - > In a perfect break in period situation with the DOCBand, you check > for red spots every 3 hours with 1 hour off in between for the first > 2 days. Guest guest
Do you really like your daycare? This policy of not touching the band sounds really stupid to me. We had a nanny at home when my daughter was in her band, so I didn't have to deal with this. Maybe it is a common approach, but it sounds really rigid to me. I think with the docband you wear it most of the time with frequent skin check (vs. the other bands where you leave if off for some of the time the first few days). However maybe you can leave it off part of the day until he is used to it, so you don't have to make so many trips to daycare. You probably want to ask your clinician about this when you pick up the band since it might not be exactly the usual schedule. Also I would ask your daycare to at least take if off, even if they aren't willing to put it on. Would they really let your kid have vomit in his band while they wait for you to arrive and take it off? yuck. -christine sydney 2.5 yrs starband grad > > Hi, > > My 6 month old son had his scan at CT Paramus last Friday. > We expect to get his DOC Band next week. Guest guest
Thanks , this really helps. 3 hour checks are very doable, I just need to forwarn work if I need to work from home to do this. Plus, my husband will have a lot more flexibility starting in July. I was concerned it would be every 2 hours, which would be a lot more complicated. We already have an appt for next Friday hoping that we could get through the breakin period over the weekend, but will definitely push it up if it comes in early. Besides the rubbing alcohol, 1% hydrocortisone cream, maybe some scented kids shampoo, and outfits that will keep him cool (plus be easy to remove - hopefully, we have that covered), anything else we should get ahead of time? I'm the type who likes to be really organized and prepared - or at least as much as you can be with an infant :-) I should add this group is great, and I've learned a LOT of really good information and truly believe we'll get through this, though the first week or two should be interesting. Thanks again! - - 6m (rt tort/rt plagio/DOCBand pending) > > > > Hi, > > > > My 6 month old son had his scan at CT Paramus last > Friday. > > We expect to get his DOC Band next week.
