Guest guest
Hanger bands are very similar to STARBands in appearance, they are typically fuller coverage with a smaller opening at the top. They are made by Hanger Orthotics, which also make other kinds of orthotic and prosthetic devices (leg and back braces, etc.). Here is their website: http://www.hanger.com/ThePatientExperience/Pediatrics/Pages/Plagiocepha ly.aspx It's important to know the experience of the orthotist you will be working with, how long they have worked with helmets, how many helmet patients they see a month/year, etc. Hanger can be hit or miss, there have been quite a few bad experiences with their band as of late. I would suggest posting your location and Hanger office and hopefully someone can offer a referral for your ortho specifically. Good luck. Guest guest
I haven't understood this ever, and maybe someone knows more, but we go to a Hanger office for our ortho visits, yet, the band my daughter wears is a Starband. I've never asked why they're a Hanger facility using a Starband helmet, but we've had no problems, I've been happy and she will be graduating soon. Guest guest
Hi, We have a Hanger helmet and have been pleased with the progress so far. I too was a little skeptical at first, because I had seen the negative posts about the NY office, and everyone was discussing CT. But another mom from my area stated she was happy with the local Hanger office and so we made an appointment there. Once we met the ortho and were comfortable with his years of experience with helmets, we went ahead with them and got our daughter her helmet. So far her facial assymetry has improved 50% and her cephalic index (width to depth ratio of her head) has improved by about 2%. She's only been in the helmet for about 4 weeks. I personally think that it's more about the ortho and rate of head growth than it is about the helmet manufacturer. If the ortho has experience with helmets and is willing/able to accommodate same-day appointments (if/when a red spot shows up and doesn't go away on its own), then you should see the correction that you are looking for with the helmet that that particular ortho is using. My two cents! Good luck! kristine (mom to ava; 4 weeks in hanger helmet)
