Guest guest
Hi, My daughter got her Clarin helmet yesterday. She spent the night in it and seems to be adjusting well. At our first consult at Children's in Seattle they said she would need to wear it a minimum of six months. When they scanned her head they said she would need it for around 4 months. At the helmet fitting they said 2 1/2 to 3 months. They put a foam liner in the helmet to cut down on the treatment time. I asked when we should come back for a check-up and they said we didn't need to unless there was problems. I asked when we got the next head scan and they said it wasn't needed. They said she should wear the helmet till we get the results we want or she outgrows it. I want numbers to compare, but they seem more into just eyeballing it. Has anyone else experienced this? We have been getting a fair bit of self correction but her head scan for the brachy was still 94.7 and her plagio was 3.6. We are also doing cranial sacral therapy as support to the helmet work. ~
Guest guest
Hi , there was a mom on here recently who was pretty happy with her clarren helmet - you can search the old messages online to find her post, and maybe contact her about how often she went for follow up appointments etc. I don't think most orthos are good at predicting the time in a band anyway. We were told 4-6 mo, and it was 5, but that is such a big range it is a pretty safe guess :-) My daughter had severe brachy and got her band at 5 mo old. She started at about 97% and finished at about 85%. She wore a starband and outgrew it by the end of her treatment. Personally I wouldn't feel comfortable with my child in a helmet unless there were regular visits - at least every 4 weeks, to make sure there is progress. A bad fitting helmet can actually make the head worse (happens in rare cases) so you can't just wait sick months then figure out it isn't helping. I would also suggest you take pictures yourself every 2 weeks and keep track of changes that way. I found the view of the top of the head showed my daughter's brachy the most. You can see her starting and ending pics under Our Plagio Babies S / Sydney M in the photos area of this group. Please let us know how she does in her helmet. -christine sydney 2.5 yrs starband grad > > Hi, > My daughter got her Clarin helmet yesterday.
